Hades
Hades game kills CPU ?
I haven't been playing for a while, but this new update seems to drain my resources.
Hades takes up to 55% of my cpu and up to 85% of my gpu on main menu screen.
Specs: intel core i7 gen10, (i7-10510U); NVIDIA GeForce MX250; 16GB ram; 1TB ssd; win10 b. 1903.

This game never reached such demands, certainly not just by being idle on the main menu screen.

I am no specialist, but your CPU seems to be.. suprisingly crappy and way below minimum requirements for Hades, which is "Dual Core 3.0ghz", while yours is 1.80 gHz if not boosted. I knew that i7 version is overpriced compared to i5, but it really is something. This CPU looks like is ment to be boosted, otherwise it is.. very weak even for way older standards.

Ah that is because it uses the turbo boost feature: the cpu boosts up its frequency when needed up to 4.9 GHz. This is a smart method designed to maintain low temperatures, power consumption and overall load balance over the core when there is no need for higher performances. Here is a ss of my cpu consumption when running hades, steam and chrome with 1 tab open: https://imgur.com/a/hVAe5c2

In my case that happens to be 35-50% from almost 4.0 GHz (counting Hades exclusivley). Rather constant ~35% on the menu screen. You can see the CPU usage by application in the "Processes" tab. I'm afraid I can't help more in that matter.

Here are my stats for comparison, also while in the main menu and with Firefox and Steam in the background:

i5-7600K CPU (also quad core):
Core 0,2,3: up to 20% usage and 0.9 GHz
Core 1: up to 80% usage and 3 GHz

NVidia 1060 GTX:
80% memory usage
0.6 GHz clock

Seems similar? I'm not experiencing any lag, framerate drops, or high cpu/gpu temperatures, so this doesn't really seem to be an issue. The devs did say they restructured the code. This may result in higher average cpu/gpu usage but lower maximum usage (complete guess!). I did have short 1-second freezes after clearing a room in Styx, but no longer in the Blood Price update.

Why is your CPU so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hot?

I missed that. 77°-87° C minimum temperature? 100° C maximum? Considering it is not even under full load, that is dangerously high. Since it's a notebook, try keeping it on a flat surface or even get one of those cooling platforms you can put your notebook on (I used that until I finally bought a desktop)

At those temps I'm surprised that they haven't complained of the OS automatically shutting down. Too bad it's a laptop, I'd take it to a shop or open it up to replace the thermal paste between the heat sync and CPU. That laptop probably sounds like a lawn mower.

Please don't remind me of my old gaming laptop. "One notebook for gaming and work and uni, so convenient" I thought. I took that fatass to uni. It was embarassing, lol.

Ah lol those are certainly not constant temperatures, it's a spike when you launch hades and then my laptop's cooling reacts and drops it down in a split second, as hades raises the cpu demand like a beast in it's first few seconds. So basically it's a ss taken a moment before the program meters reacted and updated the temperature. It actually emphasizes one of the symptoms of this game draining my cpu.

Playing on a gaming laptop atm (visiting family), and I had to turn the PC into performance mode, and set process prio to high. This is not a cheap gaming laptop btw. i7 7700HQ, and a GTX 1050Ti. And it still gets the occational lagspike, as well as poor framerate and a consistent choppyness.

There's something seriously wrong with the Hades game engine tbh. My main comp is a desktop beast, so it runs smoothly. But, this is after all A 2D ISOMETRIC HACK'N'SLASH..... SO WHY THE ABSOLUTE FFFFFFFF DOES IT LAG ON THIS GAMING LAPTOP? I ran bloody Doom Eternal on this fella without significant issues. Doom Eternal ffs..... There's a software engineer on your team that has lied horribly about credentials or something. There's no reason at all that a 2D game should lag on this computer.

Quick update, some of the sluggishness was from windows being bad at handling bluetooth. This is probably a side effect from the processor being too busy with the game and down-prioritizing the bluetooth process instead. Switched my controller to corded and the game got a lot more responsive. If you're playing this with a wireless controller, plug that s*** in. It helps a lot.

Anyway, this just goes to show again how important it is to not kill the CPU. For real, what's going on with the CPU usage in this game? The CPU needed for this game should be minimal if coded properly. My fairly newbish guess for the cause would be unnecessary CPU-GPU communication. Also, graphics settings would be nice as well.

Ah no.

I wouldn't be calling his CPU crappy.

I'm currently running i5 7th gen with integrated HD620 with nowhere near as much hindrance.

Zymeth, with your ignorance I would keep your judgement to yourself. Where in public mate; don't be hasty in lashing out with your nonspecialist advice.

The i7 is a more premium line but you're right, for most intents and purposes the i5 can operate on par. The OP's concern is legitimate without your opinion.

Your computer stats are WAY better than mine. But I do not get any of the hindrance you are reporting.

I am playing on an xps 9360

i7-10510U vs I5 7200U (your gen10 to my gen7)
GeForce MX250 vs HD620 (basic integrated graphics)
16GB ram vs 8gb ram soldered to the motherboard
1TB ssd vs 512gb 970 evo
win10 b. 1903. vs I think your win is out of date. I believe the current update is 2004

Maybe check with the drivers of your system and see what background processes are running. I play on a corded xbox controller but have my bluetooth mouse and sound attached.

I agree. I would report that my experience of the game on a lower spec system is the complete opposite, no framerate drops, no overheating and no sluggish use of bluetooth peripherals. I think you need to check your system config. Driver updates? OS update? Is the computer clean? I recently installed a new SSD and gave mine a good clean of the accrued dust. My experience of the game is as if it is *highly* optimised.

Hi,
I'm here to help.
Update your OS please. Then - after reboot - jump into the BIOS and make sure your version is the latest (If you can, dunno the whole laptop)
Video Drivers and then use anything - windows cleanup, etc and get your drive cleaned up and out of muck.
You are running pretty hot - get a can of air and blow that sucker out!
