You cannot simply make it so all the progress you make during a run is persistent, not only would that completely go against everything this game is, the game isn't even made to handle a change like this. You're not asking for "casual mode" you're asking for a new game that works completely differently. So yes, there is a very good reason why the game doesn't work the way you described: it's not that kind of a game, plain and simple. And everything in the game is made to work around that fact.
If rogue like games are not for you, I'm afraid you just have to stop playing them. Death and defeat in rogue like games is just a part of progression. Unless you understand that, you will probably never enjoy them.
Maybe I just really got unlucky that the game had a bug then? It sounded like no one has experienced this. So if I quit the game while it's not safe to quit, is it supposed to automatically give up the run then and get me back to the house with all the resources from that run?
- Go to your Hades saved game folder; %userprofile%\documents\Saved Games\Hades
- Rename your profile save file, likely "Profile1.sav" to something else like "Profile1.old"
- Copy your Profile1_Temp.sav file, and paste it somewhere, then rename it something like Profile1_Temp.old to back it up as well.
- Rename the original Profile1_Temp.sav to Profile1.sav
- Launch the game, you should now be able to pick up where you left off.
This only works if you haven't started another run yet. Basically you're just using the last save point, and you're effectively doing the same thing the game would have done had you quit out properly at a permissible spot. Now, this can be abused, but I don't recommend it, as imho you lose a lot in a game like this if you save scum and just restore if things go south. However crashes, power outages, and other life circumstances happen which are entirely outside your control, and not only is there nothing wrong with doing this, it's one of the things they say you can and should do in the troubleshooting forum for crashes and similar events. I expect it's likely too late for your lost run, but I hope this helps in the future.
