Are you supposed to beat Meg or am I missing something?
I have over 20+ escape attempts and I can't even get momentum in this fight. :(
She just rapid-attacks me and all I can do is try to dodge them. Nothing I do seems to hurt her.
Tried all kinds of builds that work fine along the way to get to her fight then blech and die.
What am I doing wrong?

It was more of a damage issue. I couldn't kill her fast enough to avoid all the adds and the boiling floor etc. My damage was too low. And it wasn't 36+ it was about 23 escapes. Only fought Megaera
about 10 times.

You are overthinking your approach to boss fights. You need to be super aggressive to succeed in this game.

Dash attack, then two hit.. dash attack, one hit, dash attack, dash attack, dash attack.

Be RELENTLESS . You will be surprised how much damage you avoid just by dashing back and forth across a boss with controlled mayhem once you have a rhythm and know the signs of needing to back off and run away.

I strongly suggest an Artemis crit build for EVERY weapon. I always start a map with her trinket, because it is the cornerstone of every serviceable build.
I have about 38ish runs into the game and have reached and killed the final boss about 5 times now I think, so I'm doing something right i guess :P. Here are a few things I learned that might help you get past that wall: The game is a lot less like binding of isaac where you depend greatly on random powerups hoping to god that you get lucky, and more skill-based. You need to know which blessings are good and which ones work together fairly well, how to make the most of your mirror for your runs, and basically learning attack patterns or looking for attack cues. This game gives you a second or two to react/prepare for attacks. Protip, look less at your character and more at the enemy/ies you're fighting/close to. Learn how to animation cancel with dash attacks and dash specials, it outputs a ton more damage when you learn how to do that. Start off with the double dash mirror upgrade, it should give you an extra bit of invulnerability to learn how enemies attack. What trinkets you start your run off with also have a HUGE impact. giving nectars to different gods/npc's in the halls of hell will give your more trinkets, which help you out in different ways. I suggest starting off with the coin sack, with the mirror upgrade that gives you +100 gold at the start of your run(fully upgraded). The rooms you choose are also very important. If there is a shop and a blessing room as your only two options, but the blessing room doesn't synergize with your current blessings, take the shop... just make smart room choices. You can't just run into everything expecting to spam buttons and kill it (although later in the run you may be able to with the duo boons...especially the ares+artemis duo boon, that ♥♥♥♥ is just game-breaking.)

Also the person above me is very correct. To do well you have to be suuuuuper aggressive, always attacking and dodging at the correct moment. You WILL get hit a few times and there is almost always no avoiding it, but you will always have a chance to heal up before major boss fights/going to a new level. get the extra health mirror upgrade ASAP. I cannot stress the mirror upgrades enough. unlock them before unlocking weapons.

Artemis crit builds might be good for a little while, but the artemis builds are usually weak compared to aphrodite attack boons and her duo boons with dionysus and ares. Theres a few tier lists out on youtube if you want to check out which synergies are really good and what you should shoot for if you want to become super strong.

Hope that helped. It's a bit of a wall of text though. tl;dr: Play smart, get the important mirror upgrades, learn patterns, learn synergies.

EDIT: ALSO SPAM THE ♥♥♥♥ OUT OF THAT DASH BUTTON

Just dash man, the game is 90% dash, the other 10% are boons and skills.

Yeah i mean you are immune to damage while dashing, and you can even attack while dashing. So dash a lot.
[Epic purchase]

I got her with the shield weapon (3rd attempt on Meg, 1st attempt with shield). Block proved to be very useful, particularly because of the secondary dash from just releasing the block. That, plus proper dash attacks, kept my damage-dealing up while keeping me alive from projectiles and her area attacks. I pretty much ignored the spawning enemies.

I'm getting better, but I'm a long way from confident :)
There are a sh+t ton of nuances to get used to between builds. I'm still learning to navigate through the most desirable path of escape. Your choices make all the difference, and I'm mostly unsure of them.
Don't worry too much about it. I'm not that good at games, and I thought that Meg would not only be too tough to beat, but so tough that beating her would leave me without life for the rest of the game. I'm at around 55 escape attempts now, with 5 successes, and the Furies are pretty much a speed bump on a no-heat run.

I know you beat Meg all ready but THIS is the correct answer to your post. If you decide to go further into the game you'll want to do this for every boss. Dash i-frames and DPS are all that matter. Dodge well and do enough damage so you don't have to dodge well for very long.
I'm doing better in most fights no matter the weapon I use. Just getting better at it I guess, but my new nemesis is the lava in Asphodel :)
Been there 3 times, and all 3 times I died to the fire lol.

Kinda hard to walk the tightrope with m+kbd

Just don't stand in the lava :p
Nah, I don't stand in it, I fall in or slide in :) then it eats the few health points I manage to have left from the Megaera fight. So the dash that was so useful to get there, suddenly is a handicap :)

Game is devious.

Grab the extra dash from the Mirror of Night. I find if I've dashed into the lava, I can dash out again before the damage starts.

Broken speartip is your tool against things like that. Keep unlocking those keepsakes.
