Are you supposed to beat Meg or am I missing something?
I have over 20+ escape attempts and I can't even get momentum in this fight. :(
She just rapid-attacks me and all I can do is try to dodge them. Nothing I do seems to hurt her.
Tried all kinds of builds that work fine along the way to get to her fight then blech and die.
What am I doing wrong?

I killed her with the gun by running around and dropping a wide radius bomb. For a long time.

get her drunk with gun, spear range. Deflect her blasts or shoot towards her when she or sis's do rapid fire. Most important try new things different combos and keep trying....

Ok.. just a really tough fight then?
I was starting to think maybe something other than combat was called for.
Thanks, I'll get it eventually :)
It was a tough fight for me as well at the beginning of my Hades career. I'd recommend (same as I would for any boss or even normal fighter) concentrating on learning her patterns before she attacks you.

Hades does a solid job of telegraphing enemy attacks. The more you pay attention to them, the better-prepared you will be. I'd also recommend listening for audio cues.
Morphic May 15, 2020 @ 7:22pm
Pay attention to her patterns, she has clear attack patterns that can be fairly easily dodged.(unless enemies spawn and are attacking you at the same time) EDIT: As Burlystone mentioned, Audio Cues can be huge for when enemies/bosses are offscreen and mounting an attack.

Also, I can't remember off hand but I think she periodically gains invulnerability for a few seconds during one of her big attacks. You can tell by a sort of forcefield/shield looking aura that surrounds her for a few seconds.

Sorry I can't give more advice but it's been a while since I actually fought her. Though don't get discouraged. I'm used to games like these and I struggled in this game for my first ~50 runs. I literally couldn't get to the boss of the second zone for about ~20 runs and was convinced the Sword is like the most garbage weapon. But I kept at it and kept trying different things, eventually stuff started falling into place and I understood the game better. Now I'm convinced everything is good(some stuff is more situational/niche) lol.

I just charge shield, until you charge it, you invulnerable

I found that if you use your charge to shift beside her and then strike 3ish times and run away, that's the best tactic for me. Don't do a straight Charge attack into her, as she'll charge into you as well and you'll both take damage.

Also, be sure you're using your mirror to upgrade, as extra lives, extra hp, and extra damage all help.

Well, she's the easiest boss. Just keep practicing. Spam that dash.

Is there any way to tell how much health she has left?
I can't seem to locate anything for her.
kekkuli May 16, 2020 @ 12:51pm
Yes a big bar on the top of the screen.

Ok, so it's days later, I've fought Meg many times since the first post and I'm still no closer to winning this fight.

This level of frustration is why I abandon some games. I don't give up all that easily (hell, I made good progress through Cuphead) but this is stupidly difficult for me.

I think one reason is the timing involved as to when I have to fight her. Is there any way to alter the number of boons or loot I can get before I face her? Or, is it as arbitrary as it feels?
I know we're still in EA here but it feels woefully unhelpful in picking useful builds.

I've tried about everything I can come up with on my own, so I need advice :)

Thanks!

/weapons tried so far : Sword, Spear, Bow, Shield - I think there's a Fist weapon or something still locked but I can't see how another melee weapon would matter.

Definitely a player issue. There are tons of people who breeze through meg. It's really hard to say without seeing your actual gameplay though. But i'd say you are not moving enough or you are moving too much and no hitting her enough.

I'm no expert but try to focus on getting your dps up somehow by the time you get to meg. That means taking all boons you happen to get. Use all tools available (cast&call if you happen to get those) also just leveling up your mirror skills will eventually make things much easier. When i first started playing i had to try meg for like 4 times too i think.

Probably the biggest thing that made the most difference for me was when i stopped using the skill that adds extra dashes and started using the one that adds extra damage after dodging hits.

As kekkuli said - it is hard to help without seeing the gameplay.

I'd try to keep distance with a bow and build for casts - they can deal tons of damadge, especially combined with artemis double-cast. But you'd have to get some basic cast upgrade from any god - maybe not Demeter , or Dionysus (both are harder to hit with).

Sometimes better defense is offense... arrive to the fight will full hp and mash attack buttons ;)

OP if you're having this much trouble with the first boss I strongly recommend considering the God Mode option in the menu. Despite the name, it does not give you invulnerability, but it will give you an extra 20% damage reduction, and increase by 2% each time you die, until hitting a hard cap of 80. Might be useful in helping you learn how to tackle Meg and future bosses until you feel confident in turning it off and trying again without it, while still allowing you to progress through the normal gameplay loop.
