Achievements still work in God mode. God mode applies zero penalty to my knowledge.

God mode is essentially like a permanent defense boon that gets upgraded each time you die until it hits cap There is zero penalty to using it and it can be turned on and off at any point, even midway through your runs.

God mode is a toggled option in the options menu, that will give you a base 20% damage reduction, along with a climbing bonus of +2% every death while it's active, up to a total of 80% reduction. It can be turned off and on at will, and in game is represented essentially by just a boon you start with.

I don't think it's an option on Hell difficulty, however.

Aside from robbing yourself any satisfaction the game would otherwise bring. If that's the way you're going, you might as well not play the game at all.

Supergiant literally does not support this stance and encourages use of god mode for whatever reason you like. Thought you guys were all about supporting a developer's vision for a game?

Holy crap, I've been playing and I finally managed an 8 run streak (using the spear with Artemis+Demeter duo boon with Demeter cast hard carries even bads like me on Extreme Measures lol), and a friend watched me while I did it and went, "Man this game looks fun but too hard."

I think God mode existing may have just made an additional sale, because he really talks like he wants to try the game but the hydra and Theseus+Asterius double battle make him think the game is super hard.

Absolutely none. As mentioned in previous posts, it essentially acts as a permanent boon that can be turned on and off at any point and caps at 80% damage reduction. Elysium/Heroes boss generally tend to be progression walls for most players, and while god mode won't be an instant win ticket, it'll definitely help with easing off damage if your friend finds it too difficult.

Supergiant says god mode is there for anyone who, for any reason, isn't satisfied with the base difficulty, and suggests it as a means to offset the effects of the Hard Labor condition of the pact if need be, as well.

I thought about it a lot. I reached the conclusion that it might spoil some things and the game becomes too easy. Therefore, I might not be able to enjoy it as I should and not experience it the way it's intended. So I decided not to turn on god mode, for now.

I'm stuck at Elysium after 15 hours playtime, and some foes there like the shield enemies are very frustrating and it kills the fun. I'm all about difficulty in games and getting reward and enjoyment after struggling for some time. Like in Dark Souls.

But this game doesn't seem to reward me a lot so I can get a sense of progression and confidence. It's either very slow, or I'm very impatient. Anyway, The fear that the game might become too easy prevents me to turn that option on.

feel like a dumass for not enabling it lmao. I beat the game without using it but the game did get repetitive after a while. But glad the dialogues are crazy good

I enabled "God Mode" pretty early on (12th or so run) as I don't have the patience to repeatedly die on or before the 3rd boss and have to re-grind my way there, especially when the RNG on boons itself can add its own 5:1 if not greater difficulty spread on top: sometimes you can effortlessly destroy maps, sometimes stuff just doesn't want to die despite using the same weapon, darkness buffs and pact.

Over-achievers can go into Hard Mode and do those +20 pacts.
