Right now I'm regretting buying the gate upgrade because it just spawns gates I can't enter, and I wouldn't be surprised if those gates are conflicting with Chaos spawns and stuff like that. There appears to be no way of disabling gate spawns after you buy the upgrade either.
I think there's value to having the gates show up even if you can't unlock them - otherwise, you might not even know what you had purchased.
As an aside, I think it would be nice if we could disable any run-affecting upgrades from the contractor bench. This could be done by toggling the option in the bench menu, similar to the way you can swap decorations.
The idea of being able to disable them sounds fun, it would allow for challenge runs and such.
