adding more death defiance is crucial at first, when Hades' 2nd phase begins, you will have a few lives to burn through.
The second phase, the big things to avoid are:
Green pots. Try to break enough of them so that you can hide behind a rock / pillar if you need to.
In phase 2, during the first 50% of his health, he can do the three way fire beam, but once he starts the beam up, he doesn't turn fast. So that may give you a chance to attack several times from behind. Below 50% health, his fire beams will attack in all directions and quickly destroy your health.
If you also get a green skull / boiling blood lodged in you, avoid being attacked and avoid trying to deal with the green pots. Boiling Blood causes you take more damage. I took approximately 150 damage (I only had 138 health) and died while REDACTED was less than 10% away from defeat. It was disheartening to say the least.
And hope you get a decent build. You can dodge most of hades attack. The skulls that explode and do an aoe wave have a range limit. So don't suicide to destroy them, if you're overwhelmed by them, quickly rotate far away.
There are npcs, boons, and even some pool shops that give you refills of death defiance. Try to keep topped up for the hades fight. Everyone struggles to beat him first time. But once you get all the attack patterns burned into your brain the game gets easier.
That's about it.
Dodging seems hard when pots/skulls & mobs run all around while Redacted hunts me close by with massive aoe.
15 attempts still feels noob especially since i never got sub 50% on 2nd stage. Meanwhile the other bosses i can go through fast
Jesus help me
Just make sure you end up behind him after charge (its pretty hard not to do this) and hes gonna waste timing attacking the air while you get some free smacks in.
If you dont want to use shield some basic tips are
-get the multiple dodge upgrade from mirror, makes it so you dont have to dodge perfectly on his circle
-shoot the green totems with something to get rid of them
-beat the tar out of him whenever he does his beam attack (until he starts doing the 360 one, then you should always stay next to cover). He turns very slowly so youve got 4-8 free backstabs on him while he does this. Maxing the backstab mirror upgrade will make this fight a lot faster as almost everything he does can be avoided by dodging through him.
-try to dodge after 1 second if he is facing you, his skull throw timing is pretty predictable and he uses either it or his spin roughly after a second of him facing you. Its only hard to avoid if your touching his model. if your using a sword or spear hit him with the very edge of your attack, if youve got a shield just sit there and block it. I havent really figured out a way to handle it with fists but your fight is going to be very hard if you are using those.
-stay as far away as possible while still hitting him. His spin is only hard to dodge if you only have 1 usage or a reduced distance boon. When he starts to wind up spam that spacebar in whichever direction gets you away fastest. He travels in a straight line so preferably not directly away from him as he will be coming right at you.
-grab a god power than makes you invulnerable for a second or 2 if you cant avoid the spin. Dont use it with 4 bars but 1 bar at a time to avoid that specific attack. I have had the best luck by far with posidon as you can get 2 very good smacks in by circling (200 unupgraded per pop I think, i only boost it 2-3 times since the damage boost starts to drop off and you mainly want it for the invul. If you luck out and find something good to boost your power regen you can use it as often as he spins.
-When he changes forms or goes invulnerable this is your time to beat on the mobs. Hes not going to do anything for about 3 seconds which should be enough time to kill a unit or 2. And hes going to like 6 times throughout the fight. When he changes phases im pretty sure everything dies.
-If the adds are a problem get the zeus lightning on attack or cast. You can still be focusing on him and take out the extras at the same time. The artemis god power also does suprising well against the extra AND hades, you just have to get close and then dart the hell out of there.
-If there are a lot of skulls in a corner just move to the other side of the map, they dont expand the whole way. If you make sure to always keep him facing one direction they wont get spread out all over the place and create an overwhelming swarm of waves to dodge.
Also I think the shield and bow are good, if you get good upgrades for them you can do tons of damage from a distance it helps. You just damage and keep dashing out of his reach then hide behind pillars when he uses his laser beams.
Also if you can save 2 or 3 death defiance (with skully item) it will really help
As for the post itself, I find the easiest weapon for the fight is the rail, Hestia's in particular. You can dodge and shoot quite easily, maintaining mobility. You can shoot pots at range and destroy them all quite quickly. You can do a ton of damage from behind cover when he's using his laser by firing your special over cover, and let your special deal with the skulls he fires too. Honestly, when you get used to it, it's a much easier fight than Theseus.
But the exploding skulls he throws to each corner every few min, I cant escape, waves overlapping, luckily i had spear that gives invulnerable for 1.5sec after damage but then Swing is another problem.
Its insta kill with the 2hpBoon & i cant seem to dodge it sometimes; prob need the +1 dash or the haste after dash buff; as 2 dashes from melee range with him is still in his range. Couple that with a waves + ads that respawn if unchecked, just ads to the issue.
seems its always the skulls, when he throws 4 or 5 at a time in quick succession, i smack some but then they bounce in some corner, denying me the space. If i let the skulls miss me, then each one goes at a different location where i ended up dodging the previous one.
If i focus on skull removal, i waste a lot of time, and usually just die by 2nd phase beginning.
I tried the Poseidon Call, but then he called me out, laughing at Poseidon and went invincible for 4-5 sec. Ares is nice as i`m invincible and i did use it to deny incoming 100% damage moves.
I never tried the shield bunker down charge method, ill give it a try. If i hold shield and skull explodes while Hades does spear charge, do I take 0 damage? If so i can just bull, charge, repeat?
My 17th try at Hades and its still sad for me. Road to him, i managed to get +15-20% extra damage with butterfly, mostly with melee weapons; just to set it that I am not 100% noob wtf am I doing, i can clear rooms with minimal damage. Even managed to kill Theseus & Bull only taking 2-3 hits maybe from the god power call usually, no problem as fountain follows. That`s my fav boss fight, best music combo there.
Redacted is very powerful, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... he wipes the floor with me like its my 1st game. Worst yet, my brother got the game and he reached Hades 2nd stage down to 10%, died at end on his 4th run. Its very embarrassing ...
Anyhow, thank you for your suggestions. Now i have more to work with.
"Tell her Cerberus is doing fine"...LOL
I managed it. Poseidon Wall break wave with exxtra damage & knockback (albeit it wont work on him) smacked him in just a few minutes...
His 2nd stage went to 0hp in a few sec once i got him next to a wall..albeit avoid his rays/invincibility times.
i found my OP power.
Worthy 30 min escape attempt.
Thank you all ;D
More recent run I started a fight with 4 death defiance (1 from chaos boon) and full hp with fists, went through whole first phase losing only 20hp or so, then constant skull rings and his beams just slaughtered me in 2nd phase quickly. Had almost all the boons I wanted with 3 duos...
I cannot even get rid of the skulls fast enough, Hades spawns them faster and his 360 swing attack is makes it hard to do damage from up close.
After losing on such a perfect run with all the boons... makes me want to quit half way when I have less successful combination on any following attempts. Really discouraging. I have most mirror upgrades as well maxed.
Hades 2nd phase is harder than all the rest of the encounters combined for me. I breeze through other boss fights. I do not want to cheese with rail or shield, I find them boring.
Nice job on beating him!
