Issue with Boon-Related Trinkets
Many Trinkets say "the next boon you will find will be from (X God)", but this only seems to work on the floor you equip it on. If you keep that same trinket equipped as you move to Asphodel from Tartarus, the first boon you find will likely not be from that God.

Is this working as intended? if so, I suggest changing the wording on the Trinket, so that players know "the next boon you will find will be from (X God)" is a one floor use.

Well, if it wasn't that way, literally all your boons would be from the same god, which would mess heavily with the game mechanics. For each run, you have 4 different gods. If you equip a keepsake, the first one gets replaced by this god. It would be dumb if equipping a keepsake would turn ALL your boons into that god.

You can actually see it is a one time use, that is why there is a (1) in a circular arrow when you equip it.

There is another caveat: Hermes and Hammer upgrades are counted separately. So, a Hermes boon is not replaced by this. Shop boons aren't replaced as well. I believe Infernal Gates aren't replaced, either.

What he said. It has a counter on it, and it makes sense if you read it: "the next boon will be from this god", not "the first boon in each zone will be from this god" or something.

The rarity boost is constant, but as for what gods you find, it's limited to ONE boon, yeah. You also get +10% chance for Epic, and +10% for legendary/duo. Only the Rare chance increases via leveling it up, as far as I'm aware.

I'm not entirely sure how it counts if you skip the god when they appear (multiple choices for next room for example). It seems that if I skip them to take a chaos/erebus gate they're still the next god, but I haven't tested if I skip them with normal rooms to take, say, a Daedalus hammer.

it's still not working properly, many times I switch to another god in keepsake and the first boon I encounter isnt related to the one I chose in the keepsake. But will appear 2-3rd zone... Which is weird; it should appear directly after selecting it.

I can vouch for this. I used to switch keepsake a lot early on to force specific build to learn. After Tartarus it is very rare for the first boon to be the new keepsake.

I think there is still a misunderstanding in how the keepsakes work, there is nothing wrong with them.

  • The effect of the god keepsakes only works for one boon. It is not kept across regions if you keep the keepsake equipped.
  • As noted, there is an indicator under your boon slots on the side of the screen that indicates if you still have the effect active or not
  • You are not guaranteed to have the first room of a biome be a boon, even if you equip a god keepsake
  • Hermes can override the keepsakes. Your charge on the keepsake is retained
  • You can sometimes go through Tartarus and barely see a boon. This is bad rng, this is not the keepsake not working

Yeah, the keepsake doesn't force the next ROOM to be a boon, it just makes the next room that spawns as a normal boon to be from that god. "Normal" boon meaning not hermes or a trial of the gods, or the charon shop.

For the record, I wasn't expecting ALL the boons to be from the same God, just the first one in each new zone.

I didn't know the Hermes override so that is interesting, I also never recognized the 1 in the circular arrow. Those are useful tidbits. Obviously the game is amazing, and i would say near perfect, I just think it would be simple to clarify the trinket usage so the confusion does not arise. (obviously the confusion may not arise in everyone, but I am certain it is there for some).

Sorry for necroing the thread, but I just wanted to say that I sometimes have the same problem too and I'm not sure whether it's a bug or what. I switched trinkets from Athena to Zeus, I have 1 on my trinket counter, I am in the first room of Asphodel, and next room is Hermes... https://i.imgur.com/kTIdPFT.png

Maybe actually read the thread? It's not even a page long. That's not a bug.

Hermes isn't a normal god in any way, so he doesn't count for the trinket.
