What is the best weapon?

I've been only using the sword for all of my runs and I'm getting bored of it, I've never tried the gun or the spear so any suggestions on what weapon I should try next?

Shield if you want to win every time as there is an ability to make you pretty much immortal at the last boss.

I personally love the fists.

Objectively, this. Shields blocking mechanic allows for much safer runs and boss fights in ways no other weapons can do, and without really sacrificing any offence either. Zeus just happens to be arguably the best of the shields too with the way the special throw doesn't actually stop you from normal block and attack mechanics like all the other variations throws do because they actually make you lose the shield briefly, so it's just passive bonus damage floating around triggering special effects over and over while you play like normal.

Not really. On higher bounties it suffers heavily. Block mechanic is nice, but fairly narrow. I find myself taking far less damage by simply dodging. Suffers alot with the extreme measures too as each of the bosses punish less mobile and weaker offensive builds. It's fine in lower bounties but gets weaker as time goes on. Though the Zeus aspect is my go too when I do use it as I just use it like a rail, fire my special and focus on dodging.

I don't know about anybody else, but I find it's pretty easy to avoid taking damage in the game in every instance but trying to dish out damage yourself, so I'd still say the Eris Rail is better. Best mobility out of every weapon in the game and some of the best damage too. The only reason I think people don't understand how strong it is is because they're using controllers which makes lobbing and aiming more of a faff. But yeah, I never think "Damn, I wish this weapon could prevent me from taking damage." I think "Damn, I wish I could use this weapon and not have to wait five seconds before I can move again."

Freakin' HATE the sword. Maybe I've just gotten awful luck with boons and hammers, but I haven't seen anything better than pathetic damage and slow attack speed, and I have real problems with melee only builds in this game. Only weapon I can't even make it to Theseus & The Minotaur with when I've gotten to Hades with everything else.

Maybe I've just gotten awful luck with boons and hammers, but I haven't seen anything better than pathetic damage and slow attack speed, and I have real problems with melee only builds in this game. Only weapon I can't even make it to Theseus & The Minotaur with when I've gotten to Hades with everything else.

Try using Poseidon's sword. Pair it with the Infernal Soul mirror upgrade for massive ranged damage. If you can manage to pick up Exit Wounds (Artemis tier 2 boon) you'll have one of the highest DPS builds in the game.

I like the sword. It is fast, jsut try dodging around the enemy while you attack. Having Poseidon's Dash is perhaps the best boon with the Sword, but the one from Ares works well too. Didn't even unlock Poseidon's though. Nemesis seemed just too good, especially when paired with the Attack boon of Artemis get's you a whooping 45% crit chance for 4 sec and while you're dashing and attacking, you"ll be critting TONS, especially when the enemies get Marked. Get yourself another curse for your special like Aphrodite's Weak or Ares's Doom and you"ll be dealing +40% damage with the proper Mirror of Night setup.
Also, there are a lot of actually useful Hammer boons for the sword, where you'll be dealing +300% damage to Armor, rapid strikes with Flurry or the life leech attack, when you steal 2 HP with each strike. Which perhaps the most OP Hammer boon in my opinion. Once I had that with Flurry with Zagreus Aspect and a Rare version of Hermes Swift Strike, so I've been Flurrying with 15+30=45% Attack Speed and just become a whirlwind of life leech. I simply face-tanked the final boss and still finished with max HP, the life steal happened so fast with the rapid attacks, it outhealed the damage of the final boss (and you can also get free heal from the AoE skulls or random enemies he summons).

I very well might look into that. I'm fully of the opinion that the weapon isn't BAD, I'm just bad with it, and maybe I just haven't had the right luck, aspects, and builds with it so far. Thanks for the tips!

Highest damage for me is without a doubt, the Aspect of Hestia with Fiery Presence and Battle Rage. And it is very easy to acquire, just equip the keepsake from Ares and that's it in most cases. With a proper Attack boon that increases damage (like Aphrodite or Athena) each shot deals 1000+ damage. Drop your first mob and you're on a roll.
With Artemis Attack, I was critting above 2500. God forbid you'll get yourself some of that Assault boons from Chaos that further increases your hits to undamaged foes.

At first, I didn't understand all the love for the Eris aspect--I only used the Hestia aspect on the gun because it basically becomes a freaking cannon. Then I finally decided to max out the Eris aspect, grab the Dionysus keepsake so I could get poison on my attack immediately, and give it ago. Absolute destruction.
