Hades
Is it okay to only use a select few weapons?
I've beaten the game just about 3 times now. Once with the bow, one with the shield, and one with the spear. Is there any benefit to swapping weapons? I've made it too the final boss with the gauntlets and the rail just to get absolutely destroyed, is it okay to stick with what I can play best with?

It completely is. You don't have to use anything just because the Darkness bonus is upon them. Use what you feel like, enjoy, and/or curious about.

One small drawback is that you may not be able to acquire Titan's Blood as quickly to upgrade your aspects, BUT you can still acquire Titan's Blood using the same set of weapons. Raising the difficulty, saving up enough coin toward Charon's Styx shop sometimes, or the broker.

To explain Soda's comment: You get 1 titan blood for beating the first and last boss of each escape attempt on every new weapon. You will be limited to 6 bloods instead of 12. It's not a big issue right away, because there are ways to earn bloods post-game, but it can feel restrictive.

I will also add that you're missing out on Prophecy rewards (if you care about cosmetics, contractor achievement, and another story-related Prophecy for Dusa). There is also a Prophecy for escaping Styx with the hidden aspect version of each weapon for a reward that is good for relationship building (or trading for titan blood), so you should get enough practice with the baseline functions of each weapon in order to complete that. But once again that's only if you want to!

Good to know, I'll try and at least learn each weapons' basic strategy (can't seem to wrap my head around the Rail just yet).

I will try and earn a few more wins with what I know and then move onto the nitty-gritty (prophecy and all that jazz),

For the rail, the trick is in the hammer upgrades. There is an infinite ammo upgrade (I HATEEE reloading lol so I usually pick Zag Aspect). I also almost always try to put Zeus on Attack for lightning chain effects to early on to try to get in pseudo-AoE damage in case I don't get Special hammer upgrades. But you should pile everything on as differently as you can at first, to find out what your winning strategy is for each weapon - and sometimes you will edit specifically for a certain aspect.

Rail's 2 special upgrades (triple bomb or 5 spread out weaker bombs) make it feel like you're finally doing some good damage.

Good luck! :squirtooh:

The rail can take a little while to get used to- the first time I tried it I did horribly and absolutely hated it, but since then I've come to like it quite a bit. The damage output of the default attack is pretty low, has no pierce or aoe, and also can't interrupt, so boons and hammer upgrades that address this help a lot. Zeus is a great choice for the normal attack, as it adds both flat damage and a bit of aoe. Add in something like Supporting Fire from Artemis and the regular attack can start stacking up some pretty massive damage. Other boons that scale damage on number of hits can also be good choices, such as Dionysus or even Ares (with the upgrade that adds Doom damage for each additional application). Hammer upgrades can change how the rail plays in a lot of different ways, but since you can't count on any given hammer upgrade in a specific run you pretty much have to play these by ear.

Another thing to watch for is where a weapon or build is deficient in a given run, and look for boons that can fill in that deficiency. For instance, the bow and rail can both feel deficient in tight areas, in which case getting Poseidon for your dash can fill in this deficiency as it can stack up massive damage in tight areas by slamming enemies against barriers. There are plenty of other examples like this, so always look for ways to fill in your weak points as you progress through a run.

For the Rail; shoot for Hazard Bomb and ideally also Triple Bomb. They're busted, especially hazard bomb; it'll have you doing 700+ damage per mortar, and 2100+ if you have both.

That was my strategy at first but I had issues firing them at quick enemies at would often get overwhelmed, what would you say is the best way to take on fast enemies?

shoot at yourself, and just stand still to bait melee enemies in and wait til the last second to dodge out of the hazard bomb. for ranged enemies... just shoot them and bomb them and try to hit them; fast ranged enemies are fairly rare

Just have fun. Doesn't matter how. No one is judging you. No one cares. :)
