Hades
Elysium doesn't seem fun to play through at all.
Every single enemy there feels like an agonizing damage sponge to put up with, and the entire time you're dodging butterflies filling the entire screen. Really not a fan of how enemies are allowed to just attack from off screen, either.

It's a ♥♥♥♥♥, for sure, usually. But it IS the third area, the game expects you to have your build by then to somewhat manage the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemies. It's where having one or two boons that go after armored enemies REALLY helps. Honestly I prefer it to Asphodel just because there's no stupid lava or jumpy enemies.

But boi help ya if you don't have a immediate damage dash and you get a buncha rooms with the flame wheels. Seriously goes from an easy, fun room to total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Elysium is pretty much the cutoff point for "you should have at least a good build by now". A good build makes it pretty reasonable, and a great build melts even Elysium soldiers in seconds. For the butterflies specifically, like many projectiles you can destroy them with your weapon (how easy that is depends on the weapon) and they all disappear when their mother ball dies. I assume the offscreen comment is at the archers, but they have a sound and visual indicator when they are charging an attack, so its not like you can be hit without warning.

I assume the visual indicator is the fairly useless target that floats above your head, and if there's any kind of audio cue I can't hear it through all the noise.

As far as I can tell, there's no visual or audio cue for Theseus throwing a spear at you from off screen.

Audio cue for sure. Pretty hard to focus on a dbl team fight but I'm pretty sure that there is sound for every ranged attack.

I agree, if i had a bad run with a poor build, Elysium becomes really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.

Both archers and Theseus have visual and audio cues. Can't really describe the audio (maybe just kill everyone in the room except for one archer and listen?), but the visual is that target mark. It becomes brighter and less uhh floaty as the enemy prepares their attack.

Tbh visual marks in this game are pretty useless imho since everything is so oversaturated with effects and bang bang. Thats literally my only main issue in this game and the reason why I prefer playing with controller. Since I lose sight of the mouse nearly instantly and attacking walls instead of mobs. Thats why I love the audio cues so much.. they are good.. they work.

I feel like Elysium is fine, it's just very frustrating the first times you go through it. It requires you to know the pattern of the ennemies to avoid their most powerful strikes (for example, shield guys becomes way less annoying once you grasp their patterns / their rythm).
In conclusion, I don't even think that a good build is necessary to beat Elysium, I only play in heat 20 or more, and Elysium is never the problem. Some weapons are a bit at a disadvantage, because they can't kill the little butterflies easily, but otherwise it's really fine. As someone mentionned before, the archers and Theseus both have good visual and audio cues to know when you're attacked (elite archers are still super annoying at high heat though).
So, be patient, that's a part of the game that you actually have to learn a bit more than the others, but at the end it becomes way less frustrating than at first !

The cues aren't good though.

This honestly led me to uninstalling and giving a bad review. This game expects you to die enough times so as to be able to let you get through? That's bad game design.

Also, most gameplay gets boring as hell very quickly.

The bull and Theseus are annoying AF and are only difficult because they are damage sponges with impervious and blocking.

I find it better to play with headphone or at least high speaker vol specifically for the archer and Theseus' audio cues. It's there, just pretty subtle, a bit of attention during the Theseus & bull fight and you'll identify it.

Elysium and the stupid butterfly ball is the reason why I love the last Olympian casting boon so much (don't want to specifically mention 'coz it could be spoiler for some). Watch out for it for an easier time with the butterfly ball and the last boss. You'll know what I'm talking abt when you use it.

Once you get the hang of the enemies in Elysium, they become easier to handle. They each have certain tactics that work against them, the most difficult being the shieldbearers IMHO. When I first started, I even thought that Theseus was too difficult to beat, but once you figure out their patterns, you can legitimately beat the duo with any and all of the weapons.

If they dumbed down Elysium, the game would probably be boring. The challenge of this stage makes it entertaining as it's like a test for your build up to that point. Most fun I've had there so far was this Heart-Seeking Bow build that dealt over 1000 damage per charged attack. I was killing almost everything in Elysium in 1-2 shots, even through armor (it also had +900% damage to armor). Unfortunately that wasn't one of my game-winning runs lol, but still one of my most memorable.

Try out different builds with the weapons until you find one that breezes through Elysium. Each weapon has builds (note plural) to make that stage a breeze.

So your saying if you didn't have to die at all to get through that would be good game design? Sounds like a mobile game design to me. Everyone wins? No difficulty? Nah that's bad game design.

Also I find it slightly amusing you claim this game is repetitive and yet you have 300 hours into slay the spire. Which is an amazing game but far more repetitive then Hades.
