Perfect Catch Fishing
After 100 runs I still cannot get even a single perfect catch. I know the .34 sec reaction or whatever is needed, I am just probably a bit older than the average player, and don't know if I am able to ever get that fast.

I am wondering what the community thinks about altering the % chances to gives even just a 1% to get legendary fish from a normal catch. Alternatively a house contract for a better fishing rod or lure to increase the time to .5 sec maybe? Could always turn off the contract similar to changing rugs if you want to go back to the harder catch.

Thoughts?

I have no problems with perfect catches, but I absolutely would be fine with a way to make it easier.

Better still, I'd like to have a way to decide with more precision what fish the player wants. It's not a problem to me anymore because I only have 1 fish I have to finish the codex entry for, but fishing for the rarest or most common fish can get super frustrating with the second tier fish spawning way more commonly.

Perhaps even an addition to an existing boon, or a new boon itself, to increase the window for a perfect catch.

IDK if I'm just bad at it but I never seem to be able to do it.

It's random, it doesn't even have a "timing" window. It's like Animal Crossing and I'm terrible at it.

I'd love an upgraded fishing rod with a .5 sec window.

Perhaps you're staring too much? I'm middle-aged but perfect catches are no problem. Relax your eyes, let your eyelids fall a little bit so that you can keep looking comfortably, and refresh your eyes with a fast blink after every non-flashing dunk.

Wait, time reaction count in the rarety of the fish ????

I found a good tip on reddit. If they don't bite the first 3 times, the 4th is guaranteed, that way you only need to react to the movement of the rod instead of checking to confirm whether it actually is a fish or a feint. That helped me catch some rarer fish. Otherwise I'm also too slow to do it on reaction.
I guess another way is to just always go for it and hope for the best

Yup.
According to the wiki, after the lure goes under water, if you press the button inside 0.34 seconds you get a rare fish 100% of the time and get a legendary fish 5% of the time.

If you press the button between 0.35 and 1.00 seconds you get a normal fish and have a 5% chance for a rare one.

Everything above 1.00 is a fail.

So, only your timing and which zone you are in determines what kind of fish you can get.

Oh ok good to know thanks. And I have a tips too for the OP, rely on your ears and close your eyes, I find easier to react properly only with the sound

I had trouble for a long time as well, until I figured out a system, now I get a perfect catch more often than not. Over time, I noticed patterns to the fishing. When a bite happens, it happens pretty quickly after a bob, while bobs happen at a pretty consistent rate. Basically, I tense up ready to push the button the instant I see any movement, but only for a few seconds after each bob. Once a few seconds pass, I wait to see the next bob before I get ready for the catch again. I've been using this system for the last couple dozen fish, and something like a quarter of them are legendary because of how many perfect catches I get now. Not having to spend time determining if the movement is just a bob or not makes it way easier to react quickly.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, good luck on your next run!

if anyone wants to check their reaction time, i found this test online: https://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/java/redgreen.html

and i read somewhere the average reaction time (for human?) is around 200 - 250ms.
getting below 340ms should be doable :squirtyay:

I wonder if people with fast refresh rate monitors are at an advantage because it's not that hard for me.

Fishing is a bit harder than this test because there are fake bobs so you need more time to confirm it's a real catch.

I didn't even knew this was a thing... Been playing without looking anything online for the past 70 hours. I just got two fish left, good to know that I have to click faster now.

If legendary fishing has something to do with the extremely small blink before a fish bites, then i have to say that this is damn ridiculous. I wont get it through skill, i am just too old for these kind of reflexes. The only possibility for me would be rng, that i somehow press the button in the right time.
