I play on the PC and I've been using an old 360 controller.
However nowadays i play with controller because it has better aim assist.
That said from video showing players with gamepad aiming as well than with any mouse without any auto aim, the K+M can't match with that. But it's no way natural, a thumb isn't made for that precision in such controls, it can only be training of it since very young age. Otherwise no matter how, auto aim is a handicap, in my opinion much more compatible with close range than long range, with close range it can even make series of dash attack more easy.
It's different aiming than for classic shooters (first person, above shoulders or close behind), for such games I doubt a gamepad is any match to K+M, well I suppose.
The Kb/M mouse setup is kinda weird though, change the Cast for Q and special for right click and you are good to go.
For sure it's very far from doing it at 5th run, but from a newbie to this kind of game, and a gamepad in hands, I wonder. The point is if you are a gamepad fan you most probably already played many action games fast and quit focused on dodge. But does it make the gamepad much better than K+M for this game? I don't think so, only for many players.
But, I don't remind any similar game like that, usually K+M is a handicap.
On the other hand, you can attack in more intricate ways with the m&kb - you can attack forward while dashing to the side or while moving backwards. I also find it easier to quickly switch attacking directions with the m&kb (attack, dash through a mob, instantly turn around and attack again from the opposite direction).
I find navigating the Codex to be poor with the controller - it's while scrolling down a list it's easy to accidentally change tabs instead (even while using the + pad). Nothing stops you from using the controller for gameplay and using the kb for the Codex, though.
Either is a solid choice - I've used both for many hours (currently using the m&kb).
worst-case scenario, it doesn't work out for me and i have to save up a bit more afterwards. still a bit apprehensive, but knowing that KB+M can work well is reassuring.
unfortunately i can't mark multiple posts as answers, so i'll go with 1sot0pe's, since it's the most informative and i had the easiest time understanding it.
again, thank you all for your time.
