When I run the game gets darker??
I dont know how to explain this other than when I move the game gets darker. When I stand still it looks fine and then as soon as I start running the environment gets darker and has deeper shadows kinda like ambient occlusion is being enabled and disabled.

Anyone have this issue? Is it my monitor? Its really noticeable and if I stop, run, stop, run its very distracting

I've noticed that, too, as well as an absurd amount of motion blur. The illusion of speed should not be to make the world unrecognizable while moving at a slow jaunt.

Hmmm ok so actually it might be my monitor smearing blacks / ghosting. Im going to try and tweak it

Ok so here is a video of whats happening.... is this just a VA panel thing? Something to do with the response time or black smearing of some sort?

That's a monitor postprocess issue I think.

Seems to be something to do with the black response time or something. Im running 165hz with the fastest response time enabled. Only gets worse when reducing it

Just got a 1440p 165hz monitor and have the same issue, it's a VA panel too. Tried other games and I don't get this effect.

The dark level smearing on VA panels is a common issue unfortunately and your monitor in particular have noticeably slow response time on black to white (almost 30ms). You have already done everything you could by setting the response time to its fastest level, beyond buying a new monitor, I mean. VA panels are trying to be the best of both worlds between IPS and TN but it comes with significant drawbacks.

Here's a detailed review of the monitor explaining what the issue is (added a timestamp to the relevant part):

I've found two ways to solve the prbolem, either set the panel at 60hz or boost the black so that the change of color is faster. In both cases the darkening of the image is gone or barely, if at all, noticeable. I'm gonne keep testing other games, movies and general usage and then decide if return the monitor back.

I had a reality high quality Samsung VA panel once which had a dark to grey smearing issue I ended up returning, which is how I came to be aware of the limitations of VA panels and how hard it is for manufacturers to completely eliminate it. That said, one of my friends has a VA monitor and is perfectly happy with it. It all comes down to how noticeable it is for each individual I guess.

I only use IPS monitors now but the tragedy of current monitor technologies is that no panel is perfect.

How's the response time? I've read that the va panels's problem resides only in the black to gray transition while the response time for the other colors is the same as IPS panels.
I can't find any reasonably priced monitor 27' tn 1440p 144hz.

I know this is a really late reply, I had the same issue with my games as well on an amd gpu. If i disable adaptive contrast(radeon image sharpening) it fixes it. I too have a va panel, but it was the amd feature doing this and not the panel

Another thing to look for is dynamic contrast/brightness in the monitor settings. They can adjust the backlight intensity on-the-fly depending on what is being displayed.
