Is it me or is stubborn defiance awful?
Given the way that the game's final boss is so substantially harder than anything before it (and for that matter, the same can be said of bosses 1 and 3 before you've beaten them a few times), it seems like there is absolutely no reason to ever want Stubborn Defiance over the original Death Defiance. You would have to die 3 times before reaching the boss you're currently struggling in order for it to be a positive, and if that happens you obviously don't have enough of a build to get past that boss. And the flipside is, if you've played perfectly up to the final boss you have roughly HALF as much health to beat him with (1+.3 vs 1+3*.5).

Even with Guan Yu cutting your health by 70%, if you're playing well you will not rack up 3 deaths before the final boss and you will want those extra 2 chances.

I can't think of any reason a player would want this unless they're still in their first dozen or so runs and haven't gotten past Megara yet (or an only occasionally do so). And given that it costs more than the first 2 levels of death defiance and is also not the option they're presented with first, players at that stage of the game won't have it.

It seems like the only way this could be a real option, at any heat level, would be if it were buffed to give more health during boss fights (like 80% intead of 30%).

it's very situational and up to personal preference

my view: Stubborn is good for room-by-room encounters (some harder than some bosses), Death good for bosses (especially the big bad if you get there with full counts)

Stubborn certainly saves costs on buying new Defiances, although i prefer Death myself

Higher heats and when you're really good at fighting the final boss Stubborn is a viable option I hear, but I've always rolled with Death defiance.

It was useful for me when I started playing the game since I was still struggling with Elysium and Temple fights. Once I leveled up Death Defiance and got better at handling those fights, I didn't need it anymore. Overall, it's useful while you're learning the game.

It's good for very high heats and for learning the game. And for freeing up 900 darkness to spend elsewhere in the mirror.

stubborn defiance is literally the only way to recover health when you have lasting consequences up to max. you think it's awful because you're not at a point where you need to use it.

I've been using it to restore a bit of health by intentionally dying if I'm under 30%
I'm still not that great at this game, but I'm getting there

This. Stubborn Defiance is for extremely high heat. Not for low heat or initial runs.

I suggest you try >18 heat runs (full lasting consequences, benefit packages, and forced overtime) with both and compare the results.

Besides, you're gonna have to use both types of Defiance anyways if you plan to get all the Well of Charon items for that one Minor Prophecy.
