Why can't we use the Companion against the end boss?

I think some of the companions are unwilling to confront Hades.
I know Thanatos doesn't seem to work.

I couldn't use Meg's Companion (Legendary Keepsake), but I think it must be tied to the story like Fracastador mentioned.

Yeah the idea behind the companions is they are physically helping you when you use the companion and as such most are unwilling to help you fight the final boss

big skelly and sysphos aint scared of ♥♥♥♥ so they help ya

To add to this specifically, I've certainly used Meg's companion against big bad dad.
(Meg and Hades have some great lines when you do this)

I know the companions have a limited number of uses in a whole run (based on their level), and limited to once per room.
Do you think you may have been out of uses for the run in this case?

The only other companion I've tried using (and successfully) so far against Hades is Achilles's.

The people working for Hades will not help you with hades.
The same way skelly dont work with Charon, because he works for him

After a certain point you can have a conversation with Hades where he will authorise them to help you, after that point you can use all companions against Hades.
