Usefulness of purging boons?
I feel like this can be a very useful tool, but i never seem to find the right time to purge boons? It feels like there is almost no point in doing so? Is there something I'm missing with it?

The only time I ever do it when I am forced to by the pact of punishment.

Usually in each run I'll pick up one or two boons that don't do much for me and just picked them because none of the others on offer looked enticing. It's nice to get a little cash for them that I can save up for Temple of Styx or just Charon's shop. Sometimes I'll get some boons later that changes my build from what I started with and I purge my attack or special to look for something more useful.
sometimes I will get Duo/Legendary boons that just don't fit my build. So I'll sell them for like 400 and get something else from the shop in Styx

Yep. Sold several times Duo of 'strike lightning each 1.5 sec where blood shard lies'. Nets 420 coins.
Also better health pickup or treasures of sea (or how its called) can be washed in Styx freely since its near end anyway. Or some more important boons if you want to buy Diamond or Titans blood in last shop.

Frankly shopping mid run feels unnecessary. Side from repIenishing death defiance i usually buy thread, guaranteed chaos portal or sometimes trove. If things dont go badly saving for last shop feels superior. Even if you fail to collect 1-1.5k for final goods getting several double upps or boons is huge buff. And washing away boon thats not too cruciall fuels it nicely.

I mostly use it to get SOME use out of completely useless (either because they don't fit my current build or because they are THAT bad overall) boons that RNG forced down my throat despite my best efforts to avoid that.
Of course sometimes the RNG wants to have the last laugh and only lets me purge actually useful boons. Figures.
So yeah, it's an RNG-frustration reducing feature. Not very spectacular, though.

I sold an epic Call so I could be sure to have enough money to buy a Titan's Blood if it showed.

Sometimes I take higher-rarity boons that I don't want specifically to sell later.
Also sometimes I sell boons that are slightly useful but not especially to
1) Increase the odds of getting a boon that fills the same role from a different god, or from the same god at higher rarity, as I think it's more likely to show up if you don't already have one. (Not positive here)
2) Get more money to spend later on. I really like to buy the optional diamond/blood prize on the last level, and my strategy usually results in my having enough money to do so, leastwise on the heat levels I'm currently operating on.

i mean i do it when i dont want anything from a boon so i chose the rarest one and purge it when i get the chance

Some builds are pushing you in a very clear direction for your boon and attack choices. One thing that comes to mind are poison builds. For these more than 90% of the boons are useless or straight up hindering you because they can block your important levels on your poison boon.

While you can often circumvent this by picking stuff that you can't level or go for effects that are not combat related (e.g. Poseidon and Dionysus) sometimes it's just better to pick a high rarity boon just to purge it ASAP.

A trick that's been mentioned already is picking duo boon viable gods and selling those for good cash. Generally, good gods for this strategy are Aphro, Dio, Pos, Arte. Dio+Pos is a "free" duo with no restrictions. Aphro+Arte is based on weakness and crit which you will pretty much always end up with when picking these, including supportive (non-attack) effects.

So yeah it's a very useful shrine throughout the whole run for poison builds specifically.

Last run I had weakness special and lightning attack, fine for early on but didn't want that lightning (also was only rare) for the final fight. I also had poison dash (which I don't like poison in the dash) and a duo poison + weakness.

I really wanted a poison attack build, perhaps a crit (I was using crit aspect) build for the sword, almost anything but lightning. I tried but couldn't until the last biome, where I sold out most of the build and ended with attack weakness (with epic extended duration) and heroic Ares and two upgrades on top (bought). Also picked the second hammer there, the big hitter, along the extra area hammer from third biome. Only boon left from before I couldn't sell was Jolt. No cast, no call and no dash (no Hermes as well) but a good Privileged Status Combo with a couple upgrades on special Ares too and 10 sec epic extended weakness.

It ended working fairly well. The final fight was relatively easy and I could afford a Titans Blood as well (used the money keepsake in the fourth biome).

The poison on poison dash is really strong. Look at its numbers. Its double the value of poison on attack. Dio and Poseidon dash I think are really under appreciated.
