-bow is ♥♥♥♥.
-dont take backstab dmg in the mirror unless you have extra darkness and are horny
-give 1 nectar each for Skelly(trainer) and Cerberus(dog)
-death defiance is the best mirror buff in the whole game.
-get also the buff that increases your attack dmg by 10% every stack.(important for your issue)
>cerberus gives you extra max health so you can breeze past the early holding on to your death defy stacks
>skelly's keepsake is a mid-late keepsake that basically gives you another free stack of death defy, would recommend equipping for elysium and beyond
-minigun is overrated but is an ok but expensive raged choice
-spear: the only real and best ranged choice, best special in the game with high range(never use the chargeup if you dont need to)
-shield: god tier S+++ item please equip this, the item literally reads (charge up to hit everyone in a straight line for mega dmg while taking none in that direction) it blocks lazers, projectiles, some bombardment, charge attacks, boss attacks and some AOE. to me it is the undisputed best weapon in the whole game, use all your titan blood on this to make sure youre as tanky as the foes you describe!
-sword: the standard of hades weapons. good but the shield is a straight upgrade, worse dmg absorption and needs higher mental capacity to run, cant go crazy like the shield and take 0 dmg.
-casting: dont really use casting if you dont need to, it frees up your mind for other micromanaging. casting sucks hot balls and if you risk taking damage to get the shards back you might as well just do regular dmg and keep your hp bar up in the meantime. avoid buffs and perks for casting for maximum gameplay effects.
-Nectar: Hades is deceptive. the attractive gods give keepsakes only good for their own perks, and they are 100% inferior compared to cerberus/skelly. one thing to keep in mind is that the regular npc's you can talk to save for charon gives good keepsakes that effect gameplay greatly, from megaera increasing your dmg when hp is low, to achilles amping your frontal beefiness at the cost of you getting hurt in the back more.
your most consistent form of dmg is always your attack, buffing your basic attack is always the way to go when in doubt, make sure not to waste perk cards that stack and replace, and rarity does not always equate to good use. Ive completed a run of Hades with the shield, maxed cerberus keepsake and Max death defy WITHOUT using a call, my q special, or casting.
summary: bow bad shield god tier block everything and win the attrition battle. the enemies in this game are tanky as all hell but i recommend experimenting a few runs with the shield dashing around with spacebar and spamming the charge dash.(daedalus hammer is your friend) look at the dmg that you would have otherwise taken and adjust your playstyle
Priority for progression
God tier: Daedalus hammer, extra health, NPC rooms(signified by a glowing rock that has an exclamation mark and studded gems)
Good Value tier: nectar, darkness, keys, buff rooms
Stop going in these when you dont need to tier: crystal gems for rennovation rooms, gold rooms, Good Value room with a miniboss(marked by a small skull)
Avoid tier: god conflict doors(make your choice rooms)
only go to charon(bag of gold with horse skull) when you have 150+ gold.
dont go for Chaos rooms and perks beyond asphodel because its going to be a pain in the ass dont even try it.
But that could be really rare, you might just skip them maybe because of rarity or something.
With 0 heat you can actually beat the game with any basic setup, once you upgrade your mirror getting extra dash and more Death Defiance.
I feel like this needs some serious explaining here.
Wow. A lot of this is pretty bad advice.
Bow is ♥♥♥♥? It's the item that has the highest single-shot damage potential in the entire game. You do, however, need to get down the rhythm of power shot so every hit is max damage. A tip for the bow; when in mid-dash you can start charging your attack so you only stand still for a moment before getting off a power shot. Dash, charge attack, power shot, rinse and repeat until all are dead.
Back stab damage is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing; especially with the spear and every other special hit will back stab.
Skelly and Cerberus trinkets are great when starting out, but you should drop them pretty fast as there are far more useful trinkets.
The Adament Rail (minigun) is a godly weapon. Just throw Dionysus poison on attack and Ares' doom on special and you can just melt everyone around you.
Spear is good, but the bow and rail out damage it once you know what you're doing.
Shield is a solid weapon, though I never block with it because why bother when you can just dodge by dashing around? I really only use it when the Darkness bonus is on it, though. But I prefer being mobile and ranged over melee.
I'd agree that the sword is not as great as the other weapons, yes.
Don't use casting? This might be one of the worst bits of advice you've handed out here. With the mirror upgrade you'll be doing 50% more damage to anything your shard is stuck in and is a huge key to taking down big threats, like bosses.
Back to the trinkets; the individual god's trinkets are great once you know what you are doing because you can basically craft your play style choices by meeting that god quickly as well as having a higher rarity chance.
Whether you want to buff attack or special is dependent greatly upon what weapon you are using. With the spear I rarely even use the attack since the special can be so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good; particularly with guaranteed back stabs. With the bow I focus almost entirely on attack because it's quick and can ♥♥♥♥ out damage, leaving the special for control boons like Aphrodite's weakness or just Poseidon's knock-back for more breathing room in crowded encounters.
God conflict rooms are one of the top-tier choices because you get two ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boons out of it!
Lastly, Chaos rooms are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gods-tier choices. They are one of two ways to boost up your base damage; the other being boons in general. Or get the boons that increase the amount of Obals or Darkness you get; it's because of Chaos that I once ended a run with about 4k darkness when I paired it with Poseidon's increase. Get the Cosmic Egg and never pay health to enter them again. All through Tartarus and Asphodel you're fine to take them. Once you hit Elysium it does become a gamble and you need to take into account how well you do fighting the enemies and if you can afford to take the hit for a couple rooms that the Chaos boons cost. Even with the ~-50% move speed you can be fine if you just dash.
My best piece of advice; ABD. Always Be Dashing. It's the fastest form of movement and you get I-frames when dashing so it's a built-in dodge mechanic as well.
But yes, the bow seems like the weakest weapon out of all of them. For early game, remember that you can shoot the special point blank.
...the bow is a weapon that greatly improves with upgrades. It is still the weapon I would use last, if possible. By design, you got to shotgun stuff if you want high damage while cooling down Hera's casts or in the initial aspect unless you Hammer it up.
It can get some neat runs but for a caster weapon the Poseidon sword is much better. And for a ranged weapon the gun is very much so better.
If a weapon deserves buff, it is indeed the bow. Still viable though. Unless... you crank up the Heat.
I've read so many different things in general though I've been going for like double boon > boon > pom > purp crystal > gems > coin > shop > health. I rarely ever go for hp upgrades. always trying to glass cannon. how much should i value hp upgrades ? especially compared to booms or poms ?
I've got the mirror upgrade that start me at 100 health but usually end my runs around 200. They aren't high priority, but I do value them over darkness or gems. Usually I end up picking a few up from Charon.
I personally value Obals (coins) to a moderate extent since there"s always a chance to get Daedelus Hammers from Charon's shop. Never go to a shop unless you have at least 200, since that"s the cost of hammers.
I personally pick hp very often, usually finish a run with 200~250hp. If theres boon and hp but the god is not I need, I'll pick the hp.
I recently done a 32heat run, I skip lots Ares and Artemis but pick the hp, got 405hp at last. More hp = more survivability and can use your call more often = more damage, actually pretty feasible.
For the bow, you typically want Artemis or Aphrodite on its main attack. Artemis is pretty RNG due to crits, but can just explode stuff, and Aphrodite is the largest source of flat +damage in the game, making her the reliable "kill stuff faster" option. For other weapons, you may want other gods. Aphrodite is good on the special on Exagryph, but godawful on its main attack for example. Based on your weapon, you should be prioritizing certain gods and certain boons. Don't get Zeus on the bow for example, chain lightning doesn't help with its slow fire rate.
Once you learn what gods to focus on for each weapon, you can start reliable assembling builds every run. I don't really get a run with Exagryph that doesn't at least make it to the last zone for example.
Also, it's been said, but first post in this thread was written by someone who has no idea what they're talking about.
do good players just awlays use god trinkets and do kind of a predetermined build ? is that the meta ?
Its more along the lines of having done a lot of experimentation, knowing what works and what doesn't, and setting yourself up for success with reasonable choices.
