It's technically a 2D game so the types of graphics settings you might find in 3D games (such as model / texture quality or anti-aliasing) do not really make sense in our case.
Beg to differ, and here's why (sorry to revive a dead thread, but I was searching through the forums to find answers for the problems I'm having) — there's a LOT of particle physics going on when you have boons like tidal splash, or poison effects, and you're fighting mobs in Asphodel. My computer runs Hades like a dream UNTIL all of the environmental particle effects with the environment smoke, the random boon animations, the sizzling wavy flames, etc.
I drop to a really laggy frame rate and end up dying to the environmental effects specifically because I can't avoid them, the game becomes less responsive as a whole. Being able to disable cosmetic features such as that is a staple of video games. Although you might think of it as being an overall 2D game, and it is, the fact that it's such a fast-paced hack-n-slash with a lot going on means that I get to really really enjoy the game for eight hours of super fun, but am now constantly dying in the mid-level because there's just so much happening on my screen that my older computer can't keep up with.
I know I should get a better computer but not all of us can afford to upgrade our systems every time we encounter this kind of issue within a game, and it's not really fair to say that it's pointless to have such a feature when it means the difference between someone like me being able to finish the game and not being able to finish the game. Especially since it's really honestly my favorite game I've played in a long time.
Should be pretty easy to test- does the responsiveness of your entire system drop during these situations or just the game's?
You're right to some extend, but it still would be nice to lower/remove some settings, as some boons make really colorful mess in a screen, after which is hard to follow what's happening. (Zeus' effects are biggest culprit there)
