Confused: Am I supposed to just pick spear?

Sword is cool, but less range and same effect as spear.
Shield is nice for blocked damage but the "must stand 1 foot away" puts you in more danger while providing less dps than sword/spear.
Bow is just bad because of the low dps, stationary, and no dash cancel. I'm pretty sure nobody actually uses bow consistently.
Gun has the same range as spear, does considerably less dps than spear, has ammo, and then has a long cast time on grenade ability. AND you can't dash cancel dps.

I love spear but all the other weapons feel so woefully underpowered, especially bow, which has an abysmal TTK making the game grind to a halt.

I personally rotate between all the weapons while turning up the heat so no I wouldn't say any of them are 'underwhelming/underpowered' as such. A lot of hate for the bow too when it's potentially the easiest to beat the game with. I mean I beat my first run with it anyway not sure about anyone else.

Sword is godlike once you realize how it works, and terrible before then.

The only thing that matters on sword is getting a hammer that gives you either the improved dash attack, or the single high damage burst normal attack. If you can get both, that's even better, but you want one of those skills asap. Proceed to infinitely dash spam while mashing attacks like mad. Decimate everything and everyone. Boons? What are boons. Just take whatever gives you dash attack damage and normal attack damage, and proceed to just go ham endlessly.

Spear meanwhile is much more of a utility/balanced play tool to sword being hyper-aggression rushdown.

Power shots would help but its not you. The bow is slower clear times. My best bow time is 8 minutes slower than my best shield time.

No particular advise that you haven't heard before I presume. Slowest clear time is on the bow for me as well but I never really took notice of clear times. More focused on completing the run for me anyway.

Anyway, just the usual advice like:
Practice Power Shot
Damage tick boons (status effects)
Crits (I myself usually go for crit builds)
Get good cast and call boons (Festive fog and Ares' Aid for example)

Deflect on your dash is particularly good if you need that extra help/damage. That's about it I suppose, remember to use everything at your disposal and you should be able to clear a run fine, if your main goal is a faster time.

After playing around more with the spear, I can kind of say now: The spear throw is for show and makes the aspects worthless.

Attack+dash chain is certainly the best course of action. The DPS is that much higher. And you can just dash away if in danger... of course it is mildly risky but it sure it does things better than the sword for the most part.

And I reiterate that if the hidden aspect boosts after dashing or something like that, THAT would be my choice of aspect.

for me, shield is my most powerful weapon.It's agile, good dps, good special range attack. Mostly I like to get boon about Ares and Artemis, and Daedalus's Upgrade to make my shield double attack in one strike. And you'll see the rain of arrow and doom spear make them suffer plus most of Artemis boon is critical. Will make your attack stronger.

Currently clear heat 10~12 with all weapon, all aspect at lv1 cause I just can't decide which to upgrade though I got lots titan blood now.

For me the spear is the second worse weapon, bow is the worst. I'm sure the bow isn't that bad I just didn't find the right build for it. I always take the cosmic egg keepsake at start so RNG build all the way.

Most of my bow run rely on poison or doom damage, I do have some pretty nice dps run with explosive shot + twin or triple shotgun crit build, but in that way I think all bow aspect can do, I take Hera aspect most of the time though.

With Forced Overtime+5, spear charge attack is just too slow, especially when facing angry Alecto. The regular attack damage is too low compare with sword. Best way for spear is focus on mid-long range or cast damage.

My weapon tier currently is Aegis>Blade=Rail>Spear≥Bow

My greatest success with spear is with dodge attack based builds. Its dodge attack has good reach and is wider than the standing attack with the benefit of mobility. If chaos offers a dodge attack booster I always take it on spear (and gun).

I'm assuming you aren't getting Daedelus Hammers because those things can alter the weapons DRASTICALLY. For the bow get double shot and explosives arrows and that thing can just ♥♥♥♥ out damage. Got Artemis crits on attack, a Chaos damage boost, and I was consistently criting for 1600 damage.

With the gun you grab the Hammer that turns your special into a rocket, put doom on those from Ares, and poison on attacks from Dionysus and just watch things around you melt like crazy.

Those two are actually my favorite weapons, but I like all of them in one way or another due to how the Hammers expand the range of play styles with them all.

the rail gun gets a move where every manual reload causes the next shot to do massive damage -= and iot's 150 damage with no boons at the start of a run.

I've played a decent bit with all weapons and I find the spear to be the worst by far; the special is almost useless and only Poseidon/Aphrodite builds are really useful, so you often end up with runs where you just miss every useful boon.

Shield > Sword > Gun > Bow > Spear

My fav is the gun. It feels op as hell. My second favourate is sword I guess and then spear. It really depends on your own playstyle. What boons you pick and upgrade and what items you use and such. I've beaten the game with a sword, spear and gun. Currently almost done with a bow. No, you don't have to pick the spear. It isn't even the best weapon imo.

Gun > Sword > Spear > Bow > Shield.

But as you can see opinions on what is the best or worst weapon are very, very different so yeah, just try to find the playstyle that suits you the most. You most definitely are not just supposed to pick the spear and ignore the rest.
