Hermes: Why is he the only demigod with a "shut up" switch?
Is it a storyline fork, or did they add this because players genuinely hate Hermes specifically?

I like all the characters, and Hermes is far from the most talkative, so it seemed like a strange thing to get slapped on him. I didn't want to experiment with the option in case I unwittingly disabled Hermes's comms forever.

and what kind of person would tell hermes to stop talking anyway

monsters, that's who

He runs his mouth like he runs his feet. Quiet down, Usain.

Aha! Because at the moment he keeps asking me even though I've voting for him to maintain his chatting, so it was getting to be like... does the game want me to tell him to quieten down so that some event will happen? So thanks :)

There are so many mysterious bits in this game, where you have to have specific numbers of particular items on you in case you meet characters who might only show themselves once in four runs. I love the game, don't get me wrong, but it was annoying to keep targeting Artemis boons in run after run after run, only to discover from the Hades Wiki that you cannot have her final boon if you've taken certain other random boons from other characters during the same run. If I hadn't googled it, I'd still be banging my head on that wall. As for the slow drip of comments about Callisto before I might finally see the end of this storyline... dear god

Well the game does also say that Hermes won't mind no matter which option you pick.

Hermes: Hey, Coz, you're now well accustomed to our little chats, but I want you to level with me here. You're the boss, if you prefer, I would be happy to shut up, no harm no foul. Just give the signal, hey?

Mute Hermes next time? (He won't mind.)

Choose to keep talking
Zagreus: Perish the thought, Lord Hermes. It's been great hearing from you from time to time.
Hermes: Well, all right, boss. Just making sure that I'm not interrupting anything!

Choose to quiet down
Zagreus: Now that you mention it, Lord Hermes, yes, let's keep our interactions nice and quick.
Hermes: I hear you, boss, we'll cut straight to the chase next time, all right?

after some runs he'll check in with you

Hermes: Ahem, pardon the interruption, boss. You let me know if you prefer that I pipe up again next time, more like I used to!

Keep muting Hermes? (He won't mind.)

Talk
Zagreus: I miss hearing from you, Hermes. Let's carry on like we did before.
Hermes: Hah, sure thing, boss. It's good to have a chat from time to time!

Quiet
Zagreus: Appreciate you checking in, Lord Hermes. I think we should keep at it like we have been, nice and quiet.
Hermes: No problem whatsoever, boss. Just checking in.

Yes, I realised he said he won't mind. It was just such an odd thing that only this character has that option, and as I said, I like the chats and didn't want to cut them off even if it doesn't upset him.

It was partly the indication that made me think, "Am I *meant* to?" because it feels like the developer is saying "do it" when the question is asked more than once (like maybe it would be part of Hermes's character growth, or perhaps some other god would say, "THANK YOU, we've been trying to get him to take it down a notch for AEONS" or something :) )

Ironically I couldn't mute him due to just autopiloting and clicking by his text, thereby accidentally accepting keeping talking because of it. Kind of odd they threw in that option but made it very possible to skip by the desired outcome.

i always assumed it was because he likes things speedy so cutting the chatter would help make the interaction faster, so its in character for him to ask if you want to skip right to business

Not sure what you are talking about here. Legendary boons are accessible after obtaining certain other boons from a god. Boons taken or not taken from other gods don't matter.

I feel it's often, if you choose purple boons you can find a way of purples.

Yeah, they do. If you pick, say, Slicing Shot from Ares or Trippy Shot from Dionysus or Crystal Beam from Demeter during your run, the door slams shut on Artermis's Exit Wounds, which is one of two paths to Fully Loaded.

As a result of which, I've never found Fully Loaded after 100h+ of gameplay. I found this out roughly 20h ago, and even with this knowledge it's just too rare. They're loading wild probabilities with certainties they don't tell you about. I've focused a lot of Artemis in the beginning because she was recommended by other players for her crit chance, so I've done more runs pursuing Artemis boons than any other god by far, but this last box has remained unticked in the Artemis entry of the Fates and I don't feel like it's ever going to complete.

And this isn't the only case. Look through that community wiki (https://hades.gamepedia.com/) at each god, and you'll find other cases of this same thing, where if you accept a, b or c, then you'll never get x. Most are "you must get this, then this, in order to get this", which is slightly less severe but still feels like a game of "what number am I thinking of?") but you've still got cases like Hermes (https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/hades_gamepedia_en/thumb/1/17/Hermes_boon_tree.png/600px-Hermes_boon_tree.png?version=c6adc5ce460091abec4ade700863ddd6)

Ah, ok, I see what you mean. That is one of just two boons in the entire game that is blocked by having boons from other gods (Hermes' Quick Reload is the other), so it's extremely uncommon.

But the whole boon prerequisites progression isn't explained at all either. Zeus and Artemis in particular are a huge pain to reach legendary with, and without the guide it would take tons of trial and error to figure out.

Hermes is the only Olympian that Zagreus can interact with directly, due to his job already involving trips to the underworld. The rest can't really hear him or see him that well (Artemis comments on this sometimes), so he wouldn't be able to tell them to shut up even if he wanted to. The most he can do is accept their boons or transfer the occasional gift over to show his appreciation.

I think it's a cute touch. Other gods probably _would_ mind so you don't get the option to shut them up.
