What is the point of a perfect catch?

What is the point of a perfect catch since just about every time when i get a perfect catch, i still catch scuffers and knuckleheads?

So I keep stats and spreadsheets of my runs and I believe this stat is wrong. Legendary fish appear 31.1% of the time under a perfect catch and while I don't have thousands of fishing data I have 93 perfect catches and 5% seems to be way off more than a normal deviation.

Can confirm. For me perfect catches give a legendary fish in almost 50% of catches so 5% definitely seems off. Either there is a 0 missing after the 5 or whoever added the data used the numbers that they data mined at the beginning and things have been changed in the meantime. Since I do remeber that the fishing section of the wikipedia was added there almost instantly after the patch arrived with fishing so whoever added it definitely data mined all that info.

Pro tip is to cover the bobber with your mouse (so that you are not distracted with bobber going up and down) and press E as soon as you see the white flash. If you wait for the bobber to go down completely it is already too late for the perfect catch so that's why covering the bobber with the mouse and only paying attention for the flash works the best.

Huge tip. The boober only ever goes down to catch quickly after you first send out or after a dip. If you have to wait a bit the bobber is just gonna dip
