You watched a video and this specific topic was so important you had to come ask about it? Why do you care?
Thanks for the link! That explains it. I tried to Google it myself before, but couldn't find specific threads and let it go until today.
And why wouldn't it be an important topic, and why shouldn't we care? You say that as if the question itself is offensive.
This was my first thought upon seeing the game, as well, because throughout my school studies all the textbooks portrayed Greek and Roman gods as exclusively white skinned. For those of us who weren't studying older mythos, the developers' point of view offers an entirely new perspective on something much larger than the game. It's only natural to ask questions - how else are we supposed to know the reasoning behind the art direction? By guessing?
And I don't know about others, but after reading this thread I've been educating myself on the relationships between the ancient Greeks and the Aithiopians and have learnt a great deal about their cultural practices.
edit: made it clear this is a response to .//slayer.
This game is not based on any kind of reality, it's pure fantasy. They could make her purple and it wouldn't matter because every single graphic element of this game is a choice in style, not in historic accuracy. I hate SJW crap. And there are many hills worth dying on when it comes down to it... This is definitely not one of them. I realize that I'm probably feeding a troll here, but it's interesting to think about why characters are depicted the way they are. You can either assume the best of intentions from the source material, or the worst of intentions.
"white" can be pretty relative. In Germany we got the term (literally translated) "southlandish", which can be used in a neutral descriptive way, but also can have a bit of a racist connotation. Those mediterranean folks aren't as white as we are up here, after all.
You gotta try harder than that, lad.
