Hey, here's a screenshot of Hades running on my machine at 3440x1440[imgur.com]. The game features 2D artwork designed for the 16:9 aspect ratio. However, we do have special artwork that appears along the screen edges in ultrawide resolutions. We're open to feedback about this (and basically everything about the game) as part of our Early Access.

That's a pretty neat way of handling the extra screenspace! Always wondered why more devs don't do something like that. Maybe it'd be cool to have some HUD and/or character info on the side as well?

The ultrawide support is appreciated but I'd also like an option to replace the borders with black bars as the existing art can be distracting. Using the in-game settings to switch to a 16:9 resolution doesn't help because it stretches the image across my ultrawide monitor.

To properly get black bars on the sides of the screen, I have to first switch Windows to 2560x1440, THEN launch the game.

If real ultrawide support isn't possible, I would prefer an option to choose to either have the black bars or not. The art on the sides does look cool but I'm not sure that I like how the border protrudes into the game space. I'd probably prefer it to just stay within that extra space.

Really wish the game had real ultrawide support though. It's the future without a doubt.

Agreed with this.

I created a thread asking the same question and providing feedback, but apparently it was taken down for some strange reason. The developer responded, condescendingly, and I paraphase, "We have been getting good feedback with the borders with artwork." But they were dismissive about my feedback. I would have appreciated a response of, "We will add an option for black bars, no art." Which is pretty much every game out there that doesn't support ultrawide has black bars..

The artwork borders is very distracting. I'd rather have black bars, and that should be an option. The artwork borders should be an OPTION, not the other way around.

Of course, I'd rather have it fit the 21:9 resolution, fully.

Are you referring to me...? I figure you must be since it's mainly just me responding here right now, so I sincerely apologize to you and assure you it was not my intent to reply to you in a condescending way. That makes me feel terrible.

We appreciate your feedback about this feature and we hear you.

Please note we have a new Suggestions & Feedback forum where you can post impressions about any aspects of the game.

Edit: I found the topic you referred to. It wasn't taken down, it's still up, though I couldn't find it by searching. Looking back, I can see how my response to you could have come across the way you describe, so please accept my apology and thank you for making me aware.

Hi kid_zomb, I appreciate you working with the community and giving us consistent updates. I'd definitely prefer a full ultrawide experince in the future if its possible (I really don't know if it is or not since I don't develop games). However due to your team staying in consistent feedback with the community and trying with the artwork on the borders I decided to pickup the game. I'm 100% down to support any developer that is willing to keep a dialog open with the community even when its not easy to do so. Thanks!

Nice to see the devs responding in the discussions. As far as the Ultrawide support goes, nothing beats true ultrawide! Even if things are a bit glitchy or the outsides of the maps show some black areas, it would still be far superior to having black bars or this art on the sides. I'm wondering if there is any real difficulty to adding true ultrawide or do you guys just prefer the current solution?

So I've now played a few hours of the game and I have to say I love it. Great job!!!! The art on the sides I think does help a lot with the 21:9 aspect ratio. If possible I notice that the art slightly overlaps on the portion of the screen at the top. I don't believe this actually negatively effects gameplay but if possible instead of it overlapping could we have an option that doesn't overlap so we can see the full screen of the 16:9 ratio. I think the art helps for sure I just would prefer if it doesn't overlap. Perhaps if I had the option to see both I might prefer the overlap however currently without seeing that option I think that the small amount of overlap is a slight distraction.

My resolution is 5120x1440 and I don't have any sort of artworks, black bars only. Is there an option somewhere to enable them?
kid_zomb  [developer] Jan 21, 2020 @ 12:59pm
Hey, could you please press F10 to report that as a bug in-game? The artwork should be appearing for ultrawide monitors so this sounds like something we need to look into.
Seibzehn Jan 22, 2020 @ 11:15am
Would like to see 32:9 (5120x1440) support too! :)
