The only way to not do even more damage to your reputation is to keep silence on every post related to epic that's for sure.
Every day we learn something new, sometimes good sometimes bad but the most important is to evolve the right way, back in Dec. 2018 epic was not known to be so ''friendly'' consumer like now so there money (or guarantee sales) was a good option.
Keep up the good work and please don't sign another year exclusive.
They can't do what they want if they go bankrupt and have to let go of team members to stay in business. A lot of indies end up going broke, even when they've released hits. Some come back eventually, others downscale to pure support folks from their home office, but most just go bust and never return.
pecunia non olet. If the money kept Supergiant afloat and assured that Hades could be made according to their vision, I'm happy enough for them, even as I have been unhappy about not being able to purchase the game due to the platform it is still exclusive to.
To be fair, no-one has been talking about PR and assuming it was your team at work. Quite the opposite.
Go enjoy the party, bonfire is out here.
Τύχη be with you, hope she gets a mention. We're more a fan of her sister though.
The investment cycle actually looks like this: Tencent > Disney[1] > VC which snowballed due to aggressive microtransactions, sponsorship deals, merch and the fact the entire of Corporate USA are sitting on piles of cash without anywhere to invest them. There's a lot more to unpack there with the U4 engine and so on. Let's just say Epic weren't angels before meeting the Red Dragon.
Fortnite is Flappy Birds on steroids with a lot of experienced gambling hax mixed into one big slush pile that explicitly targets children. Interestingly, Steam / Epic / etc can legally allow 13+ children to use their site (with parental permission for payment) - Chinese companies (nominally, not enforced) require you to be 18+.
Tencent own (shares) 40% of EPIC and ~10% of Bluehole, who make PUBG. When you see anyone saying: "But Tencent own PUBG!!1!!", they don't. They're the third largest shareholder if you count various US owned funds as a single entity. The largest is still a S.Korean.
Tencent is an investment group[2] who are extremely aggressive and are well known in their internal market to be rather ruthless, esp. to small creators. They're also aware that Valve / Steam run a lot of PUBG traffic and have been horn-locked with the Central Committee over monetising the mobile version of PUBG of all things - which they recently got past by altering the game to be more patriotic and have no blood in it. They also make ~x20-30 revenues from mobile platforms than the old desktop/laptop market.
They also have native market products that produce far more money than Epic! or PUBG combined.
Their buy-in to the global games industry is... complicated. But it's not an accident that Disney are connected to them by a single step here or that all Disney films are now China friendly on release.
Xenophobia is never good. Life is never simple.
Winnie-the-Pooh is still running around the forest.
Don't be Eeyore, be like Tigger.
But values matter: you're not the product. Be like water

Apologies to SSG for spamming their forums, but they did tempt the Gods&Goddesses with their calls to the underworld.

[2] They're not only an investment group. By a long margin.
I actually had a reply ready to go to explain how share holding actually works and "Chinese money" isn't accurate at all because all that "Chinese money" already went to building up fortnite and other things. The money is mostly from fortnite earnings and U4.
But then I didn't reply because I didn't think it was worth it.
Your post was far better and one of the only ones from you I completely agree haha
You were a bit more polite here though. :)
Exactly, it takes 2 people to make a deal. If Epic offers them the deal, and they take it, they're part of the problem. Lol at people who don't know that.
The Devil never tells you the true cost of the deal.
SSG has a bit of wiggle here - the fact they never made a Steam page shows good intent. They never engaged in bait-n-switch, which is honest.
I'm reminded of 'No Man's Sky' ... redemption is possible and the PR rail-road is very real.
Uhm don't even mention NMS, scumbag dev who essentially released a $10 indie game at $60 and baited people into buying it with hype then release the full game 3 years later. People can praise them for what they did after launch but to me they're just another scumbag developer.
You're right. 100%. It was a con, SONY wanted an indy lead title exclusive, and Hello Games went along with it.
But they have spent the last 3 years making it a better game. Well. At least there's a lot more content.
SONY - 75% of the blame.
HELLO GAMES- 25% of the blame.
You'll notice that it's only Hello Games who've paid the price in time/effort though.
SONY walked away counting the cash and laughing. No consequences for the big $$$.
Of course they have to finish the game, what else were they going to do? Take the money and disband their studio? Lol no. I bet if they're with EA they would just do that, release unfinished game then move to another project. Studios under EA can do that because they have EA behind them that give them money to make the next game. Hello games doesn't have anyone behind so they either have to finish NMS with the money, or quit their job and go to another place to work.
This devs.are no saint's because they said yes to exclusivity (exclusivity should not be on PC) but they accepted the offer before all the AAA bribes so they are not as bad as Ooblets devs. who have no shame or integrity.
