While we've previously used the term 'god of death' to refer to Hades in some contexts, lately we've been more consistently using 'god of the dead' to refer to him, since the distinction is meaningful between him and Thanatos!
Indeed! In fairness, though, some of the gods are gods of... a lot of stuff! Your note reminded me of when we added Hermes to the game, and how it was fun to think about how to summarize what he does -- what his title should be. This source[www.ancient.eu] for instance says he's the 'god of trade, wealth, luck, fertility, animal husbandry, sleep, language, thieves, and travel.' That's a lot of stuff to fit on a name plate!
We decided to go with 'god of travel' in our case, especially since his design in our game is centered mostly around speed-based upgrades (he's like of the god of speed-running). Though when it comes to his personality as a character, we love being able to allude to all these different aspects of him.
Cool.
Want to respond to any of the actual questions about the game?
Haides was also the god of the hidden wealth of the earth, from the fertile soil with nourished the seed-grain, to the mined wealth of gold, silver and other metals
His real name was "the Lord of Riches".
Barely did death, that's an Abrahamic mis-representation of how death was seen in Greek culture.
You know, that whole "put two coins on their eyes for passage across the Styx"?
Well, the rich did a bit more giving than that, that was the basic travel package. That's what you did for unknown corpses so at least they reached the underworld.
Level of ignorance is massive.
And your assuming they had absolutely no knowledge of any of that based on what, exactly? Because they didn't make it a major point in the game? You don't think they knew he ruled over more than just the dead but focused on that for the game, similarly to what they did with Hermes (which they explain in the post literally right above both of yours). Whether he does Ruler of The Dead full-time or just part-time doesn't really matter, it's what he's most known for and it is one of his jobs.
Not to mention, for a video game, it's a lot more interesting than being the CEO of Bank of America.
