Hades II

Hades II

Fish utility could be made clearer
I am assuming that fish is only there to be sold for bones, but the game is never clear about this. I am only making that assumption because in Hades 1, fish was only used to exchange for resources. But first, not everyone will have played Hades 1, so it would be better if it was clear in this game. Second, it could still be different in this game. And third, in Hades 1, it was very clear as there was a specific NPC for this: Talk to the chef > he takes all your fish automatically > get rewards. The fact that fish is presented as items that you MAY (not must) sell, alongside greeneries that DO have another function in the game, leads me to believe that they may be used for something else. So, I have hoarded them until I unlocked everything and realised that they did not have any other purpose. Still, I want to keep hoarding them for now in case they have another function in the full release.

Fish may be a very incomplete part of the game, as only those who were in the first game have an actual picture, so more may already be planned regarding this. But in case it is not, it would be nice if the final release made their utility very clear. If it turns out to be only for selling them, it could be just some lines when Melinoe catches one, like "the broker will pay a lot for this!", "I should bring this to the broker", etc.

I agree.

I was saving up all my fish in case needed in the future, but decided to sell them to get more of those stones that upgrade weapons aspects.

But I'm making another stash again to save it, just in case.

Also your message falls into the biggest umbrella of this game so far: the wording is very bad.
A *LOT* of things aren't clearly explained, from boons, to aspects, relics and even simple things like "should I sell or keep this collectible?".

Yeah, I had the same concern. What I ended up doing is selling all but one of each variety of fish, just in case a recipie down the line calls for one. That's how I'd treat resources in most games, so it's not a huge deal, but if they're definitely never going to be needed, I'd like to know.

Your save is probably going to be reset to nothing when the game comes out of early access, so there's a hard limit to how much sense it makes to hoard fish now.

Conversely I would be quite surprised if there was literally never an incantation that used fish. Sure, fishing was just a way to get other resources in Hades 1, but actively gathering resources in general (as opposed to accumulating them from room rewards) was a much smaller part of Hades 1.

Why are you so sure that there will be a reset when the game leaves EA?

I'd played Hades 1 throughout its whole EA process (on Steam. I didn't play it on Epic) and never, not even once, I had my save file deleted/reset.

Devs said they would do their very best not to reset players files during updates. Of course, it can still happen and I would be fine with it. And then it does not matter if I lose my fish or whatever I exchanged them for.

And in any case, it does not change anything to my feedback/suggestion: whatever role fish have in the final version could be made clearer than whatever it is we have now.

It would be easy to add a bullet point in the "details" panel on the right in the inventory screen that says "trade to the wretched broker for bones" or something. Like what's already there for resources in other "pockets" of the inventory
