Character and Menu Graphics Resolution Confusingly Low
Idk why but during the technical test and now in the main game the character portraits and the art surrounding the menus is at a really low resolution for me. I'm not on a 4K device or anything, just normal ol' 1920x1080. When I first played the Technical Test all these elements were at the expected resolution, but after a few times playing, one time I opened the game these elements were all of a sudden at a way lower resolution. This has unfortunately carried over to the main game. I've not seen anyone else discussing this and I was wondering if there's a solution out there.

Try going to

%userprofile%\Saved Games\Hades II

And deleting GlobalSettingsWin.sjson

Run the game. If it's still ultra low res check what's going on in the Hades !! log in the Hades II folder.

It's still low res. What should I be looking for in the log? I'm not really familiar with this sort of stuff.

What's the settings in GlobalSettingsWin.sjson say ?

as for the log Hades 2 will try to initialise the Monitors , then try to detect and select the GPU. Your looking for any clues like it selecting the wrong mode or selecting the wrong GPU.

As a comparison here's mine :

It seems to be pre-setting the graphics to low in the log:
2024-05-07 22:38:32 [MainThread ] ConfigOptions.cpp:298 INFO| Set GraphicsQualityPreset: GraphicsQualityPreset_Low 2024-05-07 22:38:32 [MainThread ] Program.cpp:2846 INFO| Using 720p packages because UseLowResAssets = true
but the opposite is happening in the GlobalSettingsWin.sjson:
{ GraphicsQualityPreset = "GraphicsQualityPreset_High" NewUpdateSoundRevisionViewed = 90373 LastRoadmapRevisionViewed = 90373 GraphicsAdapter = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650" LastPatchNoteRevisionViewed = 90373 FullScreen = true ScreenshotCount = 1 Y = 1080 X = 1920 AutoDetectLowResAssets = false }

??? Does the log file say its even detecting your graphics card correctly ?

Your looking for the line in your log where it says GPU[x] detected where x is a number between 0 - the number of graphics cards you have. Then it will say GPU[number] is selected. It should be the GPU array number matching your Geforce GTX 1650. Under where it's selected it'll say the Name , Vendor ID, Model ID and Revision id of the card in question.

What's your setup like ? Do you have integrated graphics card on your CPU ?

Would you be able to pastebin your log file ?

It is integrated, it's on a laptop.

Using 720p packages because because totalRam 8029 mb < 9000 mb

That's weird given last time I checked the minimum system requirements list a 2GB card AFAIK.

Steps you can try from here on.

1) See if disabling the integrated graphics card helps. I would do some heavy research on this if I were you starting with talk in this forum or this game's sub-reddit. AFAIK you can't break anything by disabling the integrated card however for some cards it requires a BIOS setting change so be very careful when doing so and don't go off script.

2) This forum does have instructions somewhere for downloading modded dx12 libraries. This is in an effort to get past minimum system requirements. This one is fairly easily to revert by renaming certain things and deleting certain DLLs. Take backups of things before starting as that's generally good advice when experimenting

3) The devs have stated multiple times they want to get as many players with as many specs as possible playing. So last chance resort would be to look at the sticky in the tech support forum and send them the details they need. As well as adding "Bug Report" to the subject line of this post

I think it's RAM, not VRAM, in the store page is says the minimum is 8gb, maybe they set it to 9000mb and forgot to change it.

Well that's sorted I suppose. Problem is my RAM.
Thanks both of you for the replies and explanations. I'm bad at this tech stuff so it took me a bit to understand some things, but now I understand the problem. I'll be upgrading my RAM as soon as I can. Thanks for the help!
Any way to fix that? Maybe like to trick the game thinking u have more ram than u actually do? I mean the game itself runs alright with 8 gigs but those blurry textures in main menu are menace.

Actually yeah!

I was trying to see if I could come up with something and I found that the game stores the assets in a way that it's very easy to replace them.

All you need to do is go to "[Steam Path]\Hades II\Content\Packages", rename the 720p folder to something else, rename 1080p to 720p then go to "[Steam Path]\Hades II\Content\Movies" and do the same.

I think I worded it in a bad way, the problem is not your RAM, the game's minimum requirements is 8gb and that is enough for the game to load the 1080p packages, the low resolution "720p" package is for people who have less than 8gb, your system is perfectly capable of running the game with the best settings.

What I guess is happening is that the devs set it to 9gb, most likely to test if it would load the low-resolution 720p packages correctly, then they ended up forgetting to change it back to 8gb, so it's just a bug. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding.

dw about it.
The upgrade was something I really needed anyhow, didn't cost too much either. Lets me stream the game to my friends as well, runs like a dream, and has improved other games and such for me anyhow. Thanks for the help and concern though!

That's good to hear, have fun!
