I find some of the most useful arcana cards to rank up are: more slow time for omega charges, more death defies, more mana regen, more boon rerolls. I definitely feel the impact of all of those. The cards that give better chance for increased boon rarity are great as well.
The Daedalus hammers really are a mixed bag. There are a lot of really "meh" ones right now that just don't feel impactful. But there are some real bangers out there.
Actually, since you talk about there being no legit ranged weapon, let me tell you how to easily make a kickass one with just two elements, and very easy to play. Take the default Staff and Poseidon's keepsake, then grab and rarify Poseidon's special boon ("Wave Flourish"). Ideally you'll start with Epic rarity or better. Since the default special only does 10 damage and Poseidon's special boon at epic level gives a flat 40 damage increase, your damage for your basic special (no mana cost) quintuples with one boon (lower rarity will still work, but keep upgrading it as much as possible). Then hopefully you'll find the Daedalus Hammer that makes your special fire 2 projectiles that track ("Double Moonshot"), and boom, now you've doubled your 50 damage and you're doing 100 per shot where before you were doing 10. With just those two things you've got a really OP, mana-less, brainless ranged build that will mow down most anything pretty easily. Just keep tapping Y/Triangle to win, and retreat/dodge when needed.
Which is all to say that there are powerful builds out there, you just need to experiment a bit and find them (or look some up).
Staff Special is ranged and Staff Omega Attack is also ranged. Torches are ranged. ignoring Rail, since Hades 2 hasn't shown 6th weapon yet either, Hades 1 only had Bow for ranged out of 5, similar to Hades 2 having Torches?
none of these comparisons seem fair or are just familiarity bias
Just keep playing the game and figure stuff out? There are plenty of broken combos that are fairly easy to achieve. Most of the hammer upgrades are strong and if they're not strong, they make synergies better. People have GOT to stop thinking they should have figured a game out instantly. Figuring stuff out that works is the FUN part.
Exaclty, well said.
So many combos and utilization of weapons and hammer upgrades comes with time.
At first I thourhgt that most of the weapons except the Axe are so bad. But with time i did find out that right combo can lead to very good outcomes with all weapons (expect the torches :P i just don't like them. period).
OP - i advice to you just to spent some more time in this game, learn more, see what suits you best. Focus on 1 god at a time (having many boons from one god is better than collecting a little bit of this and little bit of that.
