Anybody else think the Umbral Flames are underwhelming?
I have tried to do runs with them and their aspects several times, but each time I cant seem to get anything going. If you've has successful runs with them, what did your build look like?

They gave me some of my most mindless and effective runs.

Basically realize that
1. you can stack omega specials
2. This is not a long range weapon. Attack range sucks.
3. Zeus blitz boons on special (easy proc)
4. Demeter boons on cast (freeze lock)

Zeus also gives the boon where the omega cast repeatedly lightning bolts.

Basically you need to ensure that the space around you is a kill zone and that's where the beauty of it lies.

And when you can't risk that, omega attack let's you do aoe attacks safely.

The only successful runs I had with them were Aphrodite builds, specifically on the specials. The idea is to stack Omega specials then run circles around opponents letting the orbs damage them, Omega special orbit range is close enough for Aphrodite's damage boost.

Otherwise, the weapon is so underpowered that its better to lean heavily into cast instead. If you're trying to get through fear runs with them, this is probably the best way to do it.

Not only can you stack them, but the special moves at normal speed while time is slowed from you casting them. So casting more omega specials means you're landing hits faster relative to enemy movement speed.

upgrade the melanoe aspect of the weapon, go aphrodite, spam your specials and the damage goes brrrr

To add to this as well, Zeus also has Lightning Lance to shoot your binding circle from long range, as well as Static Shock to make all your attacks emit chain lighting (at the cost of Priming 50 Magick)

Hestia is another option as well if you can't find Zeus, similar idea but night need a bit more setup (such as getting her boon to immediately detonate her scorch curse once enough stacks are applied)

I usually try to get Hephestus on my main attack while using the torches. The range is enough that you can do some pretty impressive damage with it.

Yeah I didn't even realize until someone told me. But it makes sense since you can cast multiple specials simultaneously

My most successful run with them involved Aphrodite's special attack, Apollo's Legendary boon, the duo boon between the two of them, and Fluid Gain from Poseidon for mana regen, using Aspect of Melinoe, basically became a walking buzzsaw. Not sure it was the absolute optimal combo but Chronos was embarrassingly easy.

Any more conditions? Does it have to be a rainy Tuesday?
I'd like for them to not suck.

Wow, so many conditions:
-upgrade basic weapon
-use 1 goddess (out of 3+ per run)
-use 1 of your three primary offensive buttons
-(bonus) ignore all the other advice in the thread to talk crap about something you spent 2 minutes on

had the same feeling, really feels weak compared to the other weapons. Just talking about the Weapons without any boons. No AOE and the "Y" special seems a bit useless and hard to aim. Mostly just spamming the normal attack until everybody is dead... Really weak compared to the other weapons, at least it feels like it for now.

Any success with this on high Fear? Been trying to make em work on 32 Heat and it's tough. The main sticking point I have is how the special doesn't deal hitstun. Makes dealing with screamers, bull-rushers and etc. pretty tough, even though in an ideal situation they wreck the place.
Fortuna May 22, 2024 @ 10:41pm
I thought they were kind of underwhelming when I tried them initially, but then I started stacking boons and it resulted in my first use of them being my first win, and two of my three Underworld wins was with them. I haven't experimented with their special very much, but I've had fun with combining attack and cast boons.

They definitely feel like...rather than a weapon that's decent or good by itself and gets enhanced by boons, the flames feel a little underwhelming on their own but become good with boons. Boons really seem to make or break them.
Kakrafoon May 23, 2024 @ 1:44pm
The only thing about the Flames I don't like is that it shoots these silly bubblegum blobs.
