Hades II

Reasons to give NPCs more than two gifts?
Everyone knows that a first gift will net you a keepsake.

Slightly less known, I think, is that a second gift to a boon-granting NPC will unlock their fated list prophecy.

Also, I gave Chaos a third gift and this seemed to trigger the ability to sometimes randomly find Dark (the material) in the Chaos realm.

Are there other gameplay-relevant things I can get by giving more gifts to certain NPCs? Stuff that isn't just story/flavor?

Giving camp NPCs enough gifts will unlock the options of giving them better gifts (i.e. bath salts, fishing lures, ambrosia). Each of those will fast forward all in camp waiting time by 12, 16, 20 rounds respectively. Not the most cost effective trade, but can come in handy if you need charon deliveries in a pinch

I mean this is only early access, but you could only get about this far in hades early access at first, but you ultimately had to get every god lots of nectar to get all the endings and lore, so get a headstart on that?

Yeah, I'm certainly aware that giving camp NPCs gifts can let you pass time. Although for me the lures were busted, I tried it once and it didn't pass time. But I can't say I care about passing time much.

Yeah, I believe so. But ultimately none of that was gameplay-relevant, unless I've forgotten something. It was just story.

If you need gameplay incentives to stop you ignoring the story ... then why do you care about bonding with the characters at all? Go punch gribblies and let the rest of us give wine to our cool aunts.

Uhh, wow, talk about a hostile response to a simple observation, not to mention huge assumptions about my motivations on your part.

The story isn't finished, and for all I know some of this stuff may end up being changed or tweaked, so I'd rather not advance things that are only story/flavor stuff right now, I'd prefer to wait until 1.0. Hence why I asked the question. I wanted to find out if I'd be missing out on useful gameplay advantages by not advancing them until later down the road.

Apparently that makes me a bad person.

I think the reason for encouraging you to gift non-camp NPCs past two hearts is because you can only give one gift per god per run, so even if you stockpile Nectar to make that easier once 1.0 is here, it will take a long while.

I'm assuming/hoping there is plenty more content to come in time still from the relationships.

Eh, not really, though. So far I've made 50+ runs, and I don't think anyone needs more than ten gifts, and I've already given a couple to everyone. Doing eight more runs or whatever wouldn't actually take that long.
