Frinos is the most goodest of good froggos
Love that little guy. Never mind that he's just really handy to quickly deal with releasing shades (a minigame I find tedious and time consuming), but his tanking ability is just divine. Cute little guy just hops around, minding his own business, and then like he's a stuntman in an action flick, does a dramatic leap right in front of a kill shot by Eris, and just eats that thing like it's nothing. Also he's annoyed Hecate many times by eating the sheepification attack, and I delight every time she curses about "that damn frog."

The other 2 familiars are very meh, as far as overall utility. The cat is too annoying to trigger, as I have to find her butt wherever she is and run over her, which might not be feasible given the fight dynamics. And the bird is just....pecking on people. Yay? I like their design, I enjoyed adding them because it just felt fun to go gather them when I had the treats, but as far as practicality, Frinos reigns supreme upon his illustrious lily pad.

Seriously though that boy has tanked SO much damage for me on so many runs it's not even funny. Boy has stood before the Titan of Time and casually eaten his glowy balls of death, and said "I say thee NAY....ribbit!"

Love Frinos. :steamhappy:

I heard Frinos, and like a Pavlovian response, I came running to the thread.

OP, I love Frinos, too. Had to get a plush of him:

As far as I'm concerned, Frinos was there when Mel defeated Chronos, that's a canon event. I certainly wouldn't have played the game as much as I have without my little buddy.

A lot of people swear by Hecuba and Raki, but I just can't not use Frinos. The extra health and bullet shield are just too good at any fear level. Bestest boi by a long shot.

Mel's tent on my file is just one glorious shrine to the almighty frog prince.

Frinos is the goodest boy for tanking the sheep transformation spell from Hecate alone. Him being utterly adorable is a great plus as well!

I've switched to Hecuba because doggo. But Frinos will always, *ALWAYS* have a place in my heart.
I mean, Melinoe's room is all decorated Frinos style as much as possible.

Frinos deserves a spin-off just for himself.

Haha, Etsy! They have so much good stuff, there's also a Toula plush, it's such a dangerous website, they have tons of cool Hades things

Last time I checked it had become an unofficial marketplace for Chinese stuff (being sold as handmade and unique, of course)

Wait there is a DOG?!? Where?! I've picked up the bird and cat, and the game gave me both an achievement, and a prophecy fulfilled notification that gave me the impression those were all the familiars I could have? How do I get this 4th puppers?

Since you got the bird already, the dog (Hecuba) should be straightforward. You meet her at Echo's room.

You have to meet her a few times before you can bond with her just like the cat and the bird.

I don't recall seeing a dog in Echo's chamber. Is she off in the corner or something? Because I sure don't recall seeing one like in the same screen as Echo.

Hecuba will be in a straight line after you cross the bridge with Echo on it. I believe there is a circular type indent or symbol and should be roughly between the two path choices. It will take several interactions to win her over, so focus on lower path to expedite if you wish.

Yeah she's not there at all for me? I've been talking to Echo at least 2 dozen times, and her room has always been empty of anything other than her. No doggo near the exit, I would remember that. Is there maybe a narrative trigger for it?

Well, AFAIK, the only pre-requisite for Hecuba is having bonded with Raki (the bird) which you have already.

If she's not even showing up, it seems a bug. Then I would strongly suggest you sending a bug report via F10 in-game.
(or making a topic in the Bug section here, but it seems the devs prefer reporting in-game).


(but are you sure you haven't got her already without noticing? I know that's a stupid question, but it doesn't hurt to check where all the pets stay 😅)

She was showing up for me before I even bonded with Raki though I have been playing since May and could have passed potential narrative triggers.

I also cannot rule out a potential bug though without knowing the explicit triggers from a fresh file I can't speak strongly to either as a guaranteed answer.

Possibly having extra beast loved morsels on hand could be a component?

If not a bug I say just game as you would normally and she should show up sooner or later. Do what you can for friendships... maybe there is a Hecate related trigger?

Maybe focusing primarily on southern route to try to force it as well I would think sounds reasonable.

If I can think of anything else I will edit later.

Best of luck.

Thankfully Frinos is still best pet forever.
