Umbral Flames is best weapon
The developers want me to learn mob's and boss's patterns when using melee weapons, but it doesn't work. Their attacks are too fast and random. There is no training mode in the game and you just have to spend your time trying to understand them.

As a result, when using melee you take a lot of damage.

Umbral Flames allows you to keep a safe distance, which ensures better survivability.

Yes, there are nerds who achieve mastery over a melee-distance, but for a casual players all this is boring and uninteresting.

That's a funny way to spell "Moonstone Axe"

Every weapon has a ranged option. And for the Axe and Staff melee attacks have quite a good range, especially with Apollo Boon.

Umbral Flames is fun, but some of the "melee" weapons have a lot of fun ranged potential too.

It's the damn daggers that I dislike, they do not do enough to justify the risk of equipping them imo

The aspect considered the best one out of the Torches (Moros) is pretty melee though lol.

Daggers are fine imo. I am not the best player but I can beat 32 fear with daggers which is my standard litmus test for something being balanced or not.

This mode is quite weak and rare. Torches allow you to simply spam the enemy with projectiles from afar, especially if the gifts are goods.

it's less so that I think daggers are weak, that I think the payoff for using them isn't anywhere near as satisfying as the other weapons.

They kinda remind me of the gauntlets from the first game in that sense

As a person who enjoys the torches, I feel like you vastly overrate their range.

A lot of enemies excel at closing that gap, and unless you get the hammer upgrade that makes them last longer, you'll still have to manage your distance while considering their attacks

Plus a lot of the good torch builds revolve around the special, which is a much more up close and personal option than the base attack

For the record I merely stated they were balanced and I can personally complete high difficulty runs with them.

Satisfying is entirely subjective and is usually a strictly boolean equation. You dig them or you don't not really a plus or minus simply a playstyle.

OP has a very "skill issue" take on this but for what it's worth, Aspect of Moros on the Umbral Flames is ridiculously strong and gets insane with just a few boons.

Gotta agree with OP on this one. Flames with Eos aspect was the easiest 32 testament for me in both underworld and surface. Safe dodging around, spamming specials while the orb summon thing takes care of everything

I decided to give the daggers another shot, and unlocked the third variant since it seemed cool, I have definitely turned around on them, this is such a cool way to play with them

Glad you are enjoying more aspects of the game... pun intended.

Also: Eos is not a hidden aspect. I want to say it is the middle choice iirc? Mel is first and Daybreaker should be Moros. If your omega attack sends out chonkier flames that would be it.
