You're late to the party, my dear.
This has been discussed already many times, so you're not the first one "daring" to talk about that.
Although at first I've questioned some of the design changes myself, some are justified and some are left to imagination:
1) the context is different. Now the gods are at war, so it's completely reasonable that some are depicted with armors, weapons and so on, like Demeter;
2) the gods are shapeshifters. If you have a tiny bit knowledge about mythology (any of them) you would know that gods keep changing their appearances.
Zeus has taken form even of non animal creatures, like the rain;
3) this is not confirmed, but it seems that since the first game Super Giant didn't take the Greek gods as Greeks literally. Let me explain: Greeks saw their gods as... Gods. For the whole world. Except that they didn't know any better, so of course they depicted the gods as something similar to them.
But if you take the whole world in consideration, then it's only fair to assume that some gods will be black, white, yellow, slim, fat, strong, blue eye, brown eye and so much more.
This is the reasoning behind the changes. Then, of course, you have the right to not like it (I'm not a fan either, but understand why) and don't need to feel daring about it :p
What are you talking about, exactly? To each their own on the quality of the art and portraits compared to the first game, but for the characters that did appear in the first game, none of them have really "changed" much. Chaos has, obviously. Some characters like Hermes, Artemis, and Athena have new haircuts and styles (a helmet as well, in Athena's case and a fur hood in Artemis's) that creates a pretty noticeable difference between their appearances from one game to the other, but I don't really see them as having "changed", whatever that means to you. They're still very much the same established characters in essence and demeanor. And it's definitely not "many" of them.
I don't... really think you as a "fan of the 1st game" have the privilege to feel "disrespected" by whatever changes you've perceived from one game's portraits to the other's. You don't have to like the new portraits. But insinuating that you're taking it personally and are offended somehow by them is a little much. Especially when you're still so vague about exactly what it is you're talking about. What "ulterior motive"? What "hidden agenda"?
Telling on yourself that you're trolling for flame responses really doesn't do you any favors in what should be a constructive discussion within the rules of the forum. If there's a discussion you want to have, then have it, and try to have it appropriately. Otherwise this thread is going to end up like every garbage troll thread that came before it and get duly locked for devolving into a pit of nonsense instead of actual discussion and criticism.
Zeus is trying to toss down lightning bolts at this post, but he stopped, and quickly realized the OP is already thoroughly cooked.
OP forgot the other discussions that have been done to death here. LOL.
There is no secret agenda.
Anyone who says that is making up silly claims.
Hades 2 does not have the strangest design choices ever to represent the Greek Gods.
I mean, have you seen Disney's take on Hades?!?!
Good grief, poor guy does not have a blue fire on his head.
No DEI, no SBI, nothing like that happened here.
So, don't worry about that nonsense.
Athena's color change from being basically statue color to closer to Obsidian is a bit weird, but that's it.
I think the best representation of Athena will always be Paris Jefferson on Xena/Hercules though. :P
Yeah, they're silly.
Athena is much closer to obsidian skinned than she was in the first game, where she was clearly grey skinned like Marble. At least on the Wiki page for this game.
So, uh, that's not accurate there to claim.
Hermes apparently now looks more Asian to some people.
Weird idea since it only is because of his eyes, and well, that's a racial stereotype that died out in the 1950s. :P
Haven't seen Artemis.
I'm sure most of the others who dared got similar responses as the ones seen in this thread. People either claiming they don't see it, or that it's not an issue, or that my complaint isn't valid for any number of reasons; just look at how people shame me in this thread for the games I play, they're literally going out of their way to find any reason not to discuss the topic.
So they changed what race they appear as? Didn't they change one god into a person with vitillgo? What greek mythology reasoning was behind these changes? Please give me a 'tiny bit of knowledge' about that.
Don't they typically change into beasts/monsters? Fill me in with your 'knowledge' on greek mythology that specifically backs racial changes in appearance. I'm really curious if there's actually anything you can point to, other than impersonating someone else for deceptive purposes.
I honestly don't care what race characters are, I'm just tired of all the changes to established characters.
