Game using AI in its production?
This is just an observation based on my own time in the game so far, but has anyone else noticed that some of the voices seem unnaturally monotone and distorted? I noticed it more with Hermes, but it has the same sort of distortion and monotone delivery that I've seen with basically every voice synthesis AI model I've messed with for hobby use. Now I don't know if I'm just being overly scrutinizing, but I feel like I noticed similar things with a lot of the male characters in the game.

I was playing on my twitch stream earlier this week and some of my viewers also said they could hear what I was talking about.

No they don't use AI

I think your twitch viewers are just agreeing with you because they are in a parasocial relationship with you, mate.

Supergiant doesn't use AI.

The audio files are edited to give reverb 100% but maybe stop doing ai “hobby” and watch some voice acting videos and youll be able to tell the difference

the voices sound like they do because they do some vocal processing and effects to them so they fit the supernatural theme and their place and purpose in the pantheon. nothing to do with being AI generated.

No AI here.

To everyone saying it's because of the post-processing they used, that is not what I'm talking about when I refer to distortion. There are obvious crackling noises that can be heard when they try to annunciate specific syllables, but then nowhere else. I played the first game, I know exactly the kind of vibe they're going for and it didn't have this same issue when using the same effects.

And to the people that are just being rude ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because I pointed out their favorite game developer may potentially be doing the same thing every big company is, outsourcing content to computer generated sources, I hope your day is as pleasant as you are.

Our days are fine you simply may have brainrot

Idk why there are some people are being disrespectful to this guy. The game does not use AI generated voices (which we can be reasonably sure of because we have a full list of who is being voiced by what), so why can't people just say no and then move on? Hope you have a good day OP!

Out of curiosity, what syllables are you hearing the crackling on? Cause if it's consistent on specific syllables, I would agree with the people who think it's an audio editing thing. More specifically, that sounds more like an issue with the audio editing software, since AIs wouldn't typically have consistent issues on specific sounds, and more so just have issues in general. I might be able to find an explanation for it. Ciao!

hades was 6 years ago. that's enough time for any team of developers to be at least partly ship of theseus'd - it's possible someone else handled the voices and edited them differently.

idk, i won't say it's completely impossible but the game never struck me as having AI involvement and Supergiant has no incentive to do it. They have a lot of good will and AI as a concept is becoming increasingly unpopular among consumers.

at the end of the day it's a hunch, and hunches are not proof.

People already said no.

The fact that you're arguing here means you're the rude one and you weren't actually interested in asking a question here. You just wanted to establish what your random twitch viewers as fact for some strange reason. I personally wouldn't put any weight in that.

Come on; it's the obvious #2 topic to discuss when you want to Jester-farm...
Too many "Is this woke?" Threads? Better make a "Does this use AI?" to change things up a little

Considering how obnoxiously rude a lot of people are being, I guess there's no point in trying to engage with any discussion or speculation whatsoever. No actual criticism or hard evidence, primarily personal attacks and insults. Really helps give the game a good rap and draw in new players when fans act that way.

I never said they were for certain using AI for the game, just it sounded like they could have been. And the game is early access, I wouldn't fault them either way if they used something computer generated for placeholder lines or artwork.
Punch Master May 21, 2024 @ 7:38am
I think they're using generated voices as a placeholder for voicework that hasn't been completed yet, much like the placeholder art. There is an f-ton of dialog in Hades II so it stands to reason that not all of it has been completed yet.

The specific section that caught my attention was the first Nemesis fishing segment. Nemesis's voice suddenly took on an unnatural, stilted intonation that didn't just sound like generated voicework but bad generated voicework, to the point where it was meant to be obvious that it was generated. AI generated voiceovers is all over Youtube and even the most amateurish productions sound more natural than Nemesis did in that specific section.

If they release version 1 and it's still like that I'll reassess, but that section stood out to me enough that I searched to see if anyone else had noticed something like it.
