Hades II

Early Access - Don't Forget It
Honestly, so many posts here are about the state of the game and feeling unsatisfied compared to Hades.. Either you never played OG Hades in Early Access and never experienced;

  • Placeholder Art
  • Weapons with 0 aspects (yes that's right)
  • Game ending at the first boss
  • Etc. Etc.

Either that, or you've just forgotten that the old game used to feel just as slow, and far more clunky than Hades II ever did at this stage. There's so much more to see and do right off the bat, and I for one can't wait to see what the dedicated and hardworking team at Supergiant release in the coming updates.

A lot of people here are also complaining about not being able to beat Chronos or Eris, I feel as though the ones that are, are either very inexperienced with roguelikes, or just need to understand that even those that are, need to unlock a lot more of the games content before they are truly able to make significant progress, and understand builds and what works best for them.

Honestly, nobody bar the >.05% of the hardcore can do the fresh save runs at bosses, and definitely not until they've had a LOT of practice.

TLDR; This genre of game is meant to be a marathon, not a sprint. Don't treat it as such, and you'll have a much better time. Also, pick up a controller (or KBM if you're wanting to punish yourself) play the game and form your own opinions, don't spend so much time on the internet reading garbage

If you pointing out that its EA that much, arent EA indie games supposed to be cheaper then this? Shouldnt they start cheaper then bump up the cost with each iteration? That's how commonly EA stuff goes. With that logic we should expect even higher cost of the game later

What did it cost for you? $40 NZD here, equates to roughly $25 USD. Pretty cheap from my perspective if you're talking about an established, and well renowned company like Supergiant. Bastion was so well polished for an initial IP from them, and they've only built strength upon strength since then..

Edit: Don't worry, I've seen the other posts.

I'm probably not who you're talking about here, but I will say Eris is overtuned - for an Act 2 boss in a completed Olympus route. With the exception of one of her attacks that basically can't be avoided unless you get in her face and have a sprint upgrade to run faster than she can correct her aim, I think she's fine as-is for a de facto final boss, but could do with nerfs if and when there's something to follow her up.

You are geting away from your original post. You put emphasis on the "EA", you are referencing the standard rules for EA games but exclude the ones that dont fit your argument... classic strawmaning

Game is far from perfect (yet) and has some problems, but still, I can surely say I enjoy it a lot (I have 40+ hours after a week and gonna play more). Early access is pretty good as for me, and obviously the game will be a lot better after release.

Stop coping with the pathetic excuse of an "Early Access", its 30 bucks for an EA are you serious? And even then, you cant even get a single ending in the game because they are still working on it. I dont have to compare this game to first Hades to know that this game is overpriced for the half baked content it presents. But hey, as I stated in another post, they could charge 50 bucks or more for this and you would still buy it and defend it because god forbid " an established, and well renowned company like Supergiant" to be just a greedy like any other company in the capitalist world we live in.

He has a point. One reason why im not pulling the trigger. $30 doesn't seem worth content I can beat in a few hours if even that. Once the novelty of the hype wears off, people will put it away prob for a few months till content drops, and it prob will be the same price till its fully complete.

Do games normally go up in price after going from early access to full release? I could fully understand waiting for a steam sale, but your emphasis that you are paying extra to be late stage beta testers only makes sense if the default industry practice is to jack up the price for people not willing to take that bargain.

...It's a roguelike. You absolutely cannot see all the purely game mechanical content in a few hours. That exact comparison point is just absurd on its face due to the genre. It's also factually wrong regarding the game provided - while obviously the story and cosmetics aren't all there yet and the mechanics might need some fine tuning, Hades 2 has entered early access with more mechanical content than Hades 1 had when they stopped development altogether.

And speaking for myself, no, no I would not have bought this if it retailed at a drastically increased base price compared to Hades 1.
MajinSoul May 13, 2024 @ 4:43am
Yes, the game will probably change quite a bit as it moves through and inevitably leaves EA. The art is not complete yet and new content will be added those are given and complaining about that is kind of pointless.
However, I am tired of the posts trying to compare Hades 2 to the EA version of Hades 1 when it comes to gameplay and gameplay mechanics. Hades 2 competes with the complete version of Hades 1, not with the EA version of it. The game doesn't need weapon aspects yet in order for us to compare the weapons in Hades 2 to those in Hades 1.

Yes, there are some developers who increase the price of their games as they add more content to them during EA. However, those games usually start at a much lower price than Hades 2 did. But then again, Hades 2 is already rather fleshed out compared to most other EA games.
webmetalreese May 13, 2024 @ 5:26am
Typically speaking games that release in EA are quite cheap compared to a V.1 launching. That being said, there are pros and cons to buying any game in EA:

Pro
1. cheaper than retail 70 dollar standard
2. get to give feedback and play the game as it progresses
3. get to play it earlier than anyone who wants to wait for launch.

Con
1. Bugs and crashes normal
2. Game feels clunky and poorly optimized
3. Waiting on content and patches
4. Could be in EA for unknown

Completely false statement. An average player could beat this game in a single day. Replayability? Sure. But content wise i'd say 10h+ ish.

Agreed, Hades 1 is a complete game with beautiful art, game, lore, etc.
What i dont get it is how they charge this ammount for a game that sure its EA, but not a single aspect of the game is actually finished.

Also agred. I dont mind if they charge 30 bucks for the FINAL version of this game, but EA should be max half of that price for the content it provides and also benefits the people that supports early projects by paying LESS than the game should be at final stage.

Idk we don’t have data but I doubt most average players are beating chronos 1 time in 10 hours. Especially with the UI issue of people not even knowing to how to upgrade grasp which can hold someone back there are some posts about showing how it’s common occurrence and resource grinding you have to do. I know some people here are really good at the game / or have a lot of experience from Hades 1 but I doubt that the average player will be able to do stuff that fast especially with how careful you have to be with selection of boons and banes as well focusing on incantions a lot if you really want to progress which mean putting effort in what resources you want to farm and stuff. It’s a lot of effort and there are lot of hidden things you wouldn’t quite expect especially you need to do since there is a lot more depth this game in how you have to juggle more things like, hex vs magic/ magic regen, when to use specials vs when not. What cards to use what weapon what boons are good vs which are trash etc. simply put I and lot others will probably and probably do have a skill issue and that’s okay to admit
