with the rose tinted goggles off i fully remember going through every weapon in hades and being like "these all suck except the shield" and it was only in post game progression that i started to enjoy them all
personally: some could use work, the torches have some issues, and im no fan of the staff, but the axe feels wonderful to use and is the one i win with the most, which looking around here, a lot of people aren't a fan of, which is why i think its just preference at play.
Generally I don't find the weapons nearly as fun as Hades 1 though sadly
default weapon is nice for keeping distance
twin blades is high dps and has a lot of crit chance to it
the flames is very strong if you have a build to keep regeneating mana cuz it does insane damage
axe is absolutely fun to play and holy F it can destroy stuff
idk why ppl keep saying negative stuff honestly I think people just judge too soon and not experiment with the daedalus upgrades (And that other god one i forgot his name the blacksmith) They do some insane upgrades
i think everyone just got way too used to hades 1
>Dagger is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ strong from what I've heard and seems to be among the most popular for experienced players.
>Torches are very strong too and also quite popular.
>Axe is a little weaker, I used it a lot because I loved aspect of arthur most of all in the first game but axe struggles and has a lot of trap upgrades from hammer and a lot of boons that are useless for it. The build seems very tight on axe to make it strong.
>Skulls. I don't know, haven't used them much.
The axe and dagger do crazy damage with minimal investment, and the wand is great for kiting and survival though the damage output is entirely reliant on boons.
Staff is insanely strong with minimal investment. Wave Flourish is flat damage greater than the base damage of the staff, has hammer upgrades to drastically increase the rate of fire and make it bounce to other targets and all this stack with Zeus chain lighting and Artemes supporting fire. Staff is REALLY strong.
Actually, I find Axe requires a very tight build to work well. Are you beating Chronos with the axe? I have almost triple the axe runs as staff runs and haven't beaten him with the axe yet. Axe kinda needs the attack omega upgrade that makes it charge faster or the upgrade that allows you to dash and attack while spinning for it to really get off its feet. It has trap upgrades like the ranged spin and the double slam that costs magick (run ending without strong magick regen). Playing axe, I always feel like I have no chance without a tight list of boons.

Axe does need Omega Charge rate but you can get it relatively consistently. (Just spam chaos gates and daedalus hammers until you get it). After that just get a percentage damage increase attack boon, Aphrodite is obviously the best but this includes demeter and
apollo as well. Use keepsake to upgrade it to at least rare and you're pretty much set. You are right in that it NEEDS Omega charge rate, but I've never had too much trouble getting it.
And yes, I have beaten Chronos with the axe.
Special build. Poseidon special (wave flourish) is a flat damage boost. Special can be spammed super fast. I was dealing 120 damage per bolt which is about the same damage per swing of the axes Omega attack. With the hammer upgrade to shoot two projectiles, it becomes 240 damage per special and the spam rate becomes insane.
The difference I see with axe vs staff is staff special build is totally safe while axe omega attack build is absolutely the most risky build. The charge rate is need and also the hammer upgrade that allows you to dash and attack while spinning are needed in my opinion. Though just because I haven't found success doesn't mean its not as good as you say. It's just my most played weapon by a landslide and I never got a win with it. Staff special build is just that broken imo.
They're reasonably effective, but mashing Special or shooting marshmellows both feel kind of crap.
It honestly does until you use the Aspect of Moros, that ties the gameplay together nicely and makes it a lot more fun to use
