Selene's heal feels way too important
You can in theory succeed with anything obviously (your penis is very big and everyone is impressed). But the difficulty of a run with and without the heal is just absolutely night and day. Nothing else is even close to as important. Some alternative sources of healing or even another Selene ability that vamps or heals in some other way is probably a good idea.

I feel the complete opposite, the heal never felt substantial enough to pick it. My go to is always the beam because the damage it can rack up is absurd. Granted I have never upgraded the path of stars for the heal so I would assume it increases the heal by a lot but yeah. For me it's always the beam.

There are some solid alternatives to healing. Arachne's charm keeps giving you armor after every encounter, as long as you have some already. You also get incantations that power up the fountains, plus add healing rooms to each biome. Then there's also death defiance in the arcana deck, along with another perk that reduces damage once you're under 30 health, and another that increases your health and mana after every encounter.

I like Selene heal too, but it feels just ok if it's not full moon version, 3 times until upgrading and then you lose your hex until a fountain is a big deal imo. Other hexes can be spammed.

I would argue that the Aphro heal is way better, full heal as long as you don't drop under 60% hp or whatever it was.

I also remember there being a heal from killing with the omega version of the attack, I think it was from the hammer upgrade for the staff, that one is really amazing sustain.

Selene is a waste to pickup at all unless you're on the surface and get the time slow since it trivializes Eris (after using it once you'll know all her tells so you won't need it more than once)

I mean, there are a lot of those? There are boons for 3 sources i can think of, 2 types of healing form charon, free healing at least once per area, but more likely twice, a whole weapon aspect that lets you self heal for as long as you have mana up to 50% health, icarus, artemis, soft soil, regenerating 2-8 hp every room from arcana...

that's actually a lot of healing, you just havent found her.

The heals were something i needed to get to chronos. That whole battle arena section was BUNS! Disgusting rooms ugh, just utter chaos. Anyways, Selene's heals helped me through there, upgrade it to give you 7 heals and less damage taken and YOUR SOLID for heading to chronos and nabbing some gold to hopefully get good upgrades.

Selene's heals were not good top side! I actually liked her slow down ALOT more and was pretty lucky to get two selene moons to upgrade it so i can add more time to the hex! This helped in defeating Eris with EASE! I had a sick build when defeating that dang harpy!! Along with the rest of horde of monsters, I was even lucky and skipped the dang kraken! Got Charon shop TWICE!! i am officially done with everything until the next patch~!

Most of Selene's buffs in general feel useless for Chronos, unfortunately (but okay mid-way to him, sure), Even 13 instances of Selene healing didn't help me to beat him in that run :\
Constant summoning his minion from the death DID help, though; I was surprised how well it went. And yes, time stop for Eris is nuts.

Anyhow, there will come a time when damage options become more important than healing options, since Chronos can easily out-sustain you.

Disagree. Heal is nice to have if it pops up, but what wins a run is not heal but your knowledge of boss moveset that allows you to consistently dodge and good damage output capacity. No amount of heal is going to save you if you keep eating hits and can't finish the fight quickly.
Heal is fine, but she has better stuff. It's basically like a mini crutch if you're not that good at the game yet.
