But I'm a sucker for Greek mythology AND classical witchcraft lore...so Supergiant scratched both of those itches for me xD
Mel is the opposite. She has grown up as a student instead of a child with a direct parental relationship, and the effects of that show on her. She is too cautious and tends to talk herself down and underestimates her capabilities. Hecate gently scolds her for this and is trying to tease out a more confident person, and has regrets about how she handled Mel's upbringing ("I've just realised that's the first time I've heard you laugh," as she observed in a memory). Other characters also see this and try to build her up in their own ways.
As she gets further, you see her confidence grow, especially after she encounters Chronos. She becomes more invested in this pursuit and despite not knowing how she will do it, she is no longer filled with self-doubt.
She has a particular affinity for Artemis which is revealed through their interactions, and you can see that she's a bit of a fan. I liked that a lot.
It's absurd to call that "no personality" or worse "a Mary Sue." Have people completely forgotten what that phrase meant? It's when a writer has transparently created a omnipotent stand-in for themselves in a story, not just a knee-jerk reaction to seeing a female character who can deal out violence.
Are we playing the same game?
I like the new moveset better though
Do you know what Mary Sue means, or do you just say it to farm jesters?
