Resource grinding is too much
The grinding for Hades 1 was the perfect level but now with psyche, ash, bones, silver, seeds, limestone, lotus, cat tails, nightshade, pearls etc it makes the game a repetitive grind fest. The first game made the need for resources necessary but easy. However, this game feels like you need to start grinding for hours just to get basic progression with the grasp and ash features. Even more annoying is the limiting of resources with the pick, tablet, and spade so now you have to choose which resource you can grind and even see which resource you're missing out on if you pick the incorrect tool. I enjoy the game but it's extremely frustrating.

not sure i agree so far
ive done a dozen or so runs, within 3 i had more then enough iron for anything i needed, plants happened within a similar amount (barring ones that requires some story progression)
i never felt compelled to even talk to ghost or fish

bones are a resource that is just the "if you have nothing you immidately need" resource that you get via playing with whatever weapon is hot at the moment, like gems became in the first game, meaning they're pretty free.

plus once you get pets you get a freebie every run so you can multi-dip.

might be different in full game, but i never felt the need to grind them, they just came naturally

The game sets you up for success here with the "forget me nots" and exclamation points. I actually find the systems very smart and I have been gaining materials faster each run.

38 runs and I have found zero cat tails that I need for like 6 upgrades, and no clue as to where to find them as they've yet to show up in my book. I assume overworld. I've beat Charbydyss and fought Eris. Havent beaten prometheus, but died to him a handful of times.

seeds spots in second stage(ocean), thats it for that one.
yeah, it's really annoying. you are basically forced to either commit to dozens more runs to get the resources you need, or sacrifice you build and current run for resources. not to mention that you are only allowed one tool at a time which again is only to pad out gameplay.

this is just bad game design.

lets list the grindable consumables, shall we?

psyche
bones
ashes
silver
fate fabirc
silver
limestone
bronze
shadow
glassrock
pearl
tears
plasma
marble
moly
nightshade
nightshade seeds
deathcap
mystery seeds
lotus
cattail
cattail seeds
myrtle
wheat
wheat seeds
moss
garlic
garlic cloves
shaderot
poppy
poppy seeds
thalamus
driftwood
nectar
bath salts
obol points

nothing grindy here lol

What's the rush? It won't even be 1.0 for probably 6 months+...

im just gonna provide a little context on my progress

as you can see, i have most done in under 2 dozen runs (i was basically at this point 10 or so runs ago)

i never really went out of my way to grind a zone and then die or anything, i just went out and collected as i progressed and it was more then enough, and i hardly ever got a "get free resource" perks from gods (aside from gold, which is moot for this)

the only resource that ever limited me was simply one from north path, before i actually had it opened, and wasn't sure how to obtain it.

It would be fine if they actually let us carry more than one tool.

You find Cattail seeds in Oceanus with the shovel and grow them in your garden. I'm guessing each biome has one seed and one mineral. Not sure if the shades give different amounts of resources when recruited, since I almost never use that item.

You get a free tool with your familiar so it isn't that bad.
Tablet for frog and fishing rod for cat.

You can. You need to play a bit more. This is already a mechanic.
Volcarona May 10, 2024 @ 7:53pm
Only resource pain I have seen is drift wood feels like one drops less than once a run even when you complete the area its in when so many recipes require like multiple the rest are fine IMO
Lexomatico May 10, 2024 @ 8:00pm
this has way less grind than hades 1 it turns out, just play more.... i thought the same but it's getting real quick. most of these early game complaints are actual null and void with things you pick up 10-20 hours into the game

Jesus, I feel like I dodged a bullet by not buying this thing!
I've already grinded out all the weapon upgrades, as well as most of the best arcana cards are maxed out. It's not that bad. There are way grindier games than this.
