Why is this EA?
Literally why? They have a massive budget now yet they release a half baked game for quick bucks

Greed. It's always about money.

because liike the first hades they want player feed back during development. hat in time, deadcells, BG3 and even hades 1 were great because they used EA as a way to get community feed back to improve and change the game.

Dumb consumers
Games like bg3 and project zomboid are in EA because they need constant bug fixing and improvement
Hades 1 was a different case and now they have a massive budget and if they really want player tester then why not give or hire beta tester

Not the biggest fan of early access but I'm not against the idea when it's a developer you can trust to actually finish the game at some point.

I don't always approve with Early Access as a business model. But I firmly believe (and I might be wrong of course) that Supergiant Games is one of the few game developers out there who focus on player experience and making games as fun as possible. Naturally, they are also a company, and they need to make profit in order to be able to keep doing what they wanna do. But as was already mentioned, I think SG is doing this to build a phenomenal part 2 of a fantastic predecessor. And they've shown (unlike other industry giants) that they can do that in an Early Access model, they've shown that they listen to feedback and care about their playerbase.

I'm a big cynic and sceptic when it comes to companies and our capitalistic world. And Supergiant Games are obviously also a business, not a charity. However within that framework, I believe they are true artists and are trying to do the best they can and deliver a product that is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, much like their previous games were.

Call me a fan-person, which I am, call me naive, which I might be, but in this case, until SG proves us wrong, I wanna believe Santa is real.

Im pretty sure they dont have a developer. Its a good way of getting some cash in to finish developer and people can help by testing a few stuff.

If you release it as EA you can cut costs on betatesting as it will be made by the very same players - for free.

They did it because they knew people like you would get upset and come here to complain about it. That's it, there's no other reason.

paid beta testing... great.

I can really think of no reason to be upset about Early Access - there is absolutely no incentive to jump in now, if one doesn't wish to do so (if there was I would have gripes with it).

People also tend to conflate QA work with early access. No you are not QA tester - none (or few) of us are qualified to do the work of QA. You pay for the game, get access to an EA build, and you can have fun with the game, while devs get feedback and info they need to make the game better. Or you can wait for 1.0 if that's not your cup of tea.

The choice is yours.
