Can I skip to later levels at some point?(spoilers welcome)

I never played the first game so I don't know if this was implemented there, but will I ever have the option to skip forward to later levels when starting new runs(including the Rift of Thessaly)? So far I've gotten to the Fields of Mourning, and it's starting to become concerning that I haven't gotten any shortcuts by now.

nope. game is a roguelike. you die, you start over with meta progression to make future runs easier (tarot cards, aspect upgrades, etc...)

Even so, I thought I read somewhere that the Rift has it's own entrance or something?

I'm not entirely sure why you even know what the Rift is yet.

But the Rift is a separate area in the game. And yes, you get there via a different entrance as what you are currently doing. It doesn't take place after the fields of mourning if that's what you were assuming.

Ah okay. Yeah without spoiling anything, there's no shortcut to the rift either. It's just not...where you're at. Enjoy!
