Hades II

Hades II

Too Many Minor (Material) Rewards?
Is it just me or if feels like the room rewards GREATLY favor material rewards, like to an overwhelming degree? It feels so bad getting through a Ash reward room and be faced with choosing between a Psych and Bone reward. I'm done with upgrades besides Aspects, so I just really need Bones for now (and I know that in the full release there will be way more stuff to spend the other currencies but choosing stuff I don't really need feels real bad, specially with higher Fear)
I don't even want to be spammed with boons every room, but just make hearts and MP up's a tad bit more likely and I'd feel less frustrated with this aspect

I'm with you. By my count I've gotten 5 or so rooms in Erebus to be material only room on average, about 4 or so in Oceanus. I think they feel like they'll reimburse us in the Field of Mourning by having 3 items per room there, but for a high Heat run the Scylla could the most dangerous boss and not having enough boons, or even enough money to buy boons from Charon, could be a run killer.

I agree. And at some point those rewards feel useless so it's really going to make runs boring when you don't need any more of them.

Once you unlock all the cards, Ash has only a single niche purpose. Once you reach 30 Grasp, Psyche is the same way. The purpose in both cases is making shadows, which in turn are used to make Moon dust to upgrade cards. Once all cards are upgraded, even that niche purpose is gone.

As minor rewards go, they become worthless rooms you always avoid if given the chance extremely early on, especially because there's so many other avenues you could collect them in large quantities if you really need to. I mean, the spirit-collecting tool plus Frinos gives you hundreds of Psyche per run even without room rewards. Add a similar thing for Ash with an extra gathering tool or later familiar, the rooms could be removed from rotation altogether with minimal impact.

Rewards becoming useless is a thing in many "rogue like" games, especially on early access.

For sure there'll be new things to spend those resources on and even later there'll be something to trade those small materials for something else.

Oh, absolutely true. Hell, it was a thing in Hades 1, Darkness became a worthless reward once you unlocked all the upgrades in the mirror. The difference is by time you unlocked everything in the mirror you were 40-60 hours deep in the game. This game, not even 10 hours and you're done with Ash entirely. Psych doesn't last that much longer afterwards.

It's a different thing than with the many other materials as well, because every time you run into a room with Ash or Psych rewards you're losing a room that could have had anything else in it. HP up, MP up, a relationship item, even mere gold. That's the thing as well, Gold gives you Charon credits that let you get a bundle of ash or psych for basically nothing, in greater amounts than dedicated rooms give it to you as well. Darkness or Gems you would occasionally farm for in the first game, you never need to farm for Ash or Psych in this one.

I agree; though It was like this already back in Hades I, but it feels more prominent in Hades II. I guess one extra material does have its impact (darkness/gems/nectar vs bones/ashes/psych/nectar).

Hopefully one day there will be incantations that also give you minor rewards "to the run" when choosing these rooms (like the small health buff, extra coins, and random pom in Hades I), but since this mostly happens only during the first few Erebus rooms and it isn't that big of an issue once you enter Oceanus and Mourning Fields I am not sure if any change on it will take place.

you don't love having to choose between ash, psyche, or bones for half of a biome? i LOVE having to to pick between three materials i already have more than enough of to completely redo another play through instead of any item at all that would benefit the run

I would wager there will be some sort of reward for significant amounts of no longer required materials. Hades I had the different menu themes available to purchase as well as the shade in Hades' bedroom, so just hold onto the stuff and see what happens.
