Can we just have a manual save please?
It's so obnoxious for any game to be all "unsaved progress will be lost!" whenever you quit when it doesn't even give a save button, and then only tells you a vague "last saved less than a minute ago" so I have to compulsively walk back and forth between rooms of the crossroads just to feel at ease.

It would also certainly help for all the times I've been literally at the last room of a run, paused the game to do something for a minute, and then the whole thing locks up or crashes and puts me back at the crossroads when I restart.

Pretty sure the game saves after you finish a room. I quit during runs and come back to the same room I finished. You have a different game or something?

nope only one file, I was literally at the door before Chronos, game froze up until I force quit and reopened as if I never started the run.

The default setting is that the game will auto-save upon transitioning into a new room, even in the crossroads and mid-run. Manual saving wouldn't do much unless you deliberately turned that off (and to be blunt... why would you when it's that frequent?).

Sounds to me however that what happened to you was because your game had a critical error... to which nothing could have really been done even if you did have the ability to save manually. Hell, I'd just take solace that it didn't fully corrupt your save file and force a restart.

Autosave works fine when you quit properly, but it seems it doesn't work if your game was crashed.

This. Hell if you force shut the game, it takes you back to the crossroads.

It saves every time you Complete a room, if you enter a new room, you have to beat that room first, then it will save.

If the game is force closed for any reason, it resets to the crossroads. The reasoning behind such is likely related to people trying to manipulate their run.

Somewhere in the forums I saw a dev linking to something you could try if you lost progress. If I didn't dream that, you could try to search for it.

Edit: I found it! In the technical support forum there is a stickied FAQ, somewhere in there is something you can try.
