FAQ
We're aware you have a lot of questions about Out There: Oceans of Time. Which is understandable since we're going from a 2D game to a full 3D universe and a lot of new features.
That's why we've put together this useful FAQ. Feel free to ask anything in the thread and we'll update along.

What is Out There: Oceans of Time (OTOT) ?
Out There: Oceans of Time is a new entry in the Out There franchise. Its gameplay is based on the award-winning and top seller game Out There: Ω Edition released in 2014. In a nutshell, it’s a hard-sci-fi space exploration game blending roguelike, resource management and interactive fiction.

What is the story of OTOT
In a far-flung corner of the universe where humans are a disdained minority, you were entrusted with transporting the most dangerous being alive to an impregnable prison—and it escaped. Now you must lead a team of explorers, misfits, and bounty hunters on a galaxy-spanning mission of redemption to find the Archon and recapture it before it is too late.

What are the Key Features of OTOT
  • Explore a vast 3D universe that is different every time you play
  • Meet strange alien beings and learn to communicate, trade, and conduct diplomacy with them as you build a coalition of allies in your quest to find the Archon
  • Manage your crew and officers, recruiting new members from the alien races you encounter
  • Find and salvage new ships to commandeer for your missions
  • Lead your away teams on daring expeditions to probe derelict spaceships, ancient cities, and desolate planets to learn their secrets
  • Upgrade and maintain your ship, managing scarce resources that can be replenished through trade or planetary exploration
  • Weave your way through a epic branching narrative with multiple endings told through interactive cel-shaded cutscenes written by FibreTigre and illustrated by renowned artist Benjamin Carre

When will the game release and on which platforms?
Our launch window is late 2020 - mid 2021. Our will is to get the game on every platforms available whether it is PC, mobile or consoles (current and next-gen). While PC is definitely confirmed, we need to discuss further and/or get approvals from platform holders before confirming more.

I’m an old-time fan of the original game. What will this game bring to the table in terms of gameplay?
The biggest additions to the game are definitely Crew Management and Expeditions.

Crew Management
On top of upgrading you spaceship, you’ll also have the duty to recruit and manage a crew that will help you fly it. Crew members can be assignable to any equipment to improve its efficiency. Over time, crew members get specialized into said equipment to make it even more efficient.
If you want your crew stick with you, you’d better build amenities such as cantina, dormitory, infirmary… to keep their morale up and to avoid resignation or, worse, mutiny.

Expeditions
OTOT will give you the possibility to explore the planets you land on in a turn-based fashion. You’ll have to select 4 crew members and send them in the unknown in hope of coming back with resources, new technology blueprints and other useful loot. Exploring barren planets comes with risks and dangers. Expect crew members to die during choice-based events… Or to level up and gain new abilities split in 3 different classes.

We have more exciting new stuff in store that we’ll reveal later on. Stay tuned, old-time fan.

Full release or Early Access?
Still in discussion.

Controller support?
Yes.

How can I get involved into Alpha and/or Beta testing?
We haven’t started external testing but we’ll keep you informed once it is available.

Is the game in full 3D?
Yes, the game is in full 3D, but still turn-based gameplay. Don’t expect free roaming like in Elite Dangerous. We are trying to keep the ‘pulp comic book spirit’ of the original. So our artists and technical team are hard at work to make the best rendering possible.

Do I need to play the other games in the franchise to understand what’s going on in OTOT?
No, Oceans of Time is a standalone story in the Out There universe. However, it will feature known faces who previously appeared in Out There Chronicles such as Commander Nyx.

Which languages are supported ?
The game will be localized in English, French, Russian, German and Chinese. More localizations will be confirmed later on.

Does OTOT supports Steam Cloud Saves?
Yes.

While our goal is to make the game available on all platforms, at this point in the development, we can't confirm day-one Linux support. But we're working on it.
We're using Unity as game engine.

Regarding platforms, again :)
What about MacOS? Could it be day-one or it be somewhere near to future Linux support (UNIX-like systems and all of this)?

We'll likely support MacOS and Linux.

Out there: Ω Edition is one of my favorite games, I even wrote a review recommending it to my friends. I would like to know if it will be released on PT-BR, because I am Brazilian and in this new game I have not localized my language.

Regarding the planetary expdition part: will the planetary environments (i.e. the plants, rocks, terrain features) be procedurally generated or will there just be one set for each planet type?

Will choices have random outcomes? I remember the first game having predetermined effects for every choice so it was all about going optimal after learning the game
