Two of the three modes are singleplayer, with the third being COOP. You lead a team of SWAT AI in the two, with one of the modes offering an additional challenge of managing traits and stress for your team.
Commander mode:

You load into the HQ, manage your own and AI officers gear. Finishing one map unlocks the next. You have to go to HQ between each mission, so expect a lot of load times. As you go along you can manage a roster of officers, hiring, firing etc. There is a stress mechanic, where "negative" or "postitive" actions/outcomes affect your officers stress levels. And officers will unlock their trait after a certain amount of in-game experience.

Quick Play:

You load into the HQ and start any map (may have to unlock them all, unsure). No stress, no traits.
It is a single player game mostly in my opinion and you can play with friends and some multiplayer, though randoms usually suck. Not always but usually. It is not like back in the day playing SWAT 4 where peeps came in and played and respected the community. Today it is rando's who for the most part screw around and screw things up. If you find a different experience I would like to know where you found it.

Not exactly different, but if you play enough, you can find people in random lobbies you vibe with. Randoms get a lot of stigma in this community.

I went into one random where the host was a full team leader. It was unusual, so I remember it well. He was very patient with the ones unfamiliar with a vocal and tactical lead, and we did good together.

I don't have the patience for randoms bs, nor wanting to put in the effort to be a team lead. Such is life. If I could set up and manage my hosted server, I might do full team lead on random servers in the future. But, damn. As it is now? No.
Yes, there is Singleplayer mode, a Singleplayer Campaign.
does this have a proper single player story driven campaign like the old rainbow six games had?
No.
Just maps that tell a story by paying attention to the details in the maps.
No cutscenese or something like that.
The briefings for the missions are voiced though, and have background information.

Interesting. It almost sounds like a sim. Maybe it's labeled a sim and I didn't notice the tag on the store. But that sounds pretty dope.

Thanks for the details.
