When does the "story" start?

There isnt a story, you make it up in your head.

so they lied about the game?
"A: For Full Release Ready or Not will have a heavily story driven campaign which meticulously spans the in-game world."

It's in the briefings and world building itself, but there's not much spoken narrative

Yeah, I'm confused about this as well. It was explicitly stated there is a story-campaign and so far it's just the same missions as before and a few new maps but without the mission-type selection being offered.

They seem to have spent so long on frivolous details like realistically destructible cars they forgot to focus on the features which actually affect gameplay? Yes I know the team AI were update and they are very good but what about the rest of the game?~

Edit: The story mode is the "Commander Mode", why this isn't started when you literally select new game is a mystery. Just another unintuitive menu design.

It has a story but I wouldn't exactly call it heavily driven unless you go out of your way to listen to the voiced briefings for every mission.

I think the environmental story telling is pretty killer though!

They should have done this in a style of, head over to Gas 4 U for a "suspected robbery gone wrong" but actually its a group trying to fund an actual terrorist organization/ CP ring, this would lead to Voll and or some other end map. That would have been better. Like, they could have strung this as a giant sting operation. Drugs for money, weapon manufacturing for defense, robberies for quick cash or kidnaping, and it all led to Voll.... Void, you should have hired me for your story board writer lol..

They do that . . . All of the missions are part of chains of missions that lead into each other . . . . check the achievements to see which ones. Makes more sense that there are multiple groups of bad guys in this city working on separate plans . . . I would have called ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ immediately if there was somehow a DIRECT link between a CIA agent gone rogue, a crackhouse, a religious terrorist organization, and a CP ring. Can you imagine a story where it turns out ISIS, the Mexican cartels, and the unibomber were all connected? Lol.

Yeah this is what happened to me. I didn't even have that option when I launched it.

Having no option to play hostage rescue / active shooter / terrorist hunt IS the "story" mode.

No, it's commander mode.

press and hold tab to see briefings and lore. Theres context clues of progression in every mission to see time is indeed passing.

I wouldn't have called it "story driven campaign". The game does have lore and backstory, and A LOT of it, but "story driven" implies a primarily narrative experience that is the focus of the mode. Ready or Not's primary focus is not on story.
