Do the traits actually matter?
Is it worth putting the AI through therapy and micromanaging that aspect of the game just to get their single trait? I haven't seen the benefit but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Traits like Veteran, Armorer, Pacifier, Negotiator and Nutritionist can be useful if you go for S rank runs but you will get bored soon if you fail and restart the map. Bynow I play on practice so I won't waste my time in these loading/setup screens

You still need to unlock the maps in Commander Mode first, if you haven't done so already.

No you don't. Beating them once in practice mode unlocks the next level. You can unlock everything in practice mode.

Unlocking missions in Commander mode unlocks for practice mode as well, but playing through missions in practice mode will only unlock missions for that mode.
