How to remove a team mate from your roster?

Failed a mission and now everyone is anxious, but clicking on their name then trying to press the > button next to a empty slot on the side doesn't seem to do anything.

Recruit new SWAT in the empty slots and then replace your existing team with the newbies

Just started so that would mean 3 newbies and one anxious person. So there's no way to lone wolf it? I know for later levels that's a really silly idea. Also is there any repercussions for firing people?

You will be ineligible for a certain achievement and lose access to whatever skill that person had, and if you want it back, will have to hire someone with that skill and train them up again.

You could alternatively go to an easier mission of your choice and just arrest the majority of suspects.
