There is a mod for this that allows you to spawn in AI team that you can control. I can;t remember what it's called though or if it is still updated, have a browse on Nexus.
Client side mod so you would have to always host to use it. Currently this is the only thing allowing AI in co-op sessions.
In single player you only have 1 human who has to boss around the bots
But in co-op who's the one in control? If it's only the host then the other players feel like they have no input.
If anyone can give the bots orders then who's orders do they follow?
Do the bots just exist to fill empty player slots and if so what happens when you have 4 players and 1 bot?
R6 Ravenshield had a perfect system where you could assign bots to red, green and a gold team. Position one in the respective squad always had control so you could basically have human players lead their own little teams filled with AI bots under their wings.
I don't see how that wouldn't be possible to do since there are already split up teams like red and blue with each a pair in singleplayer.
They simply have to copy that system plus make the AI optional for the host to add and delete in the lobby and everyone will be happy but i think the devs priorities are lying somewhere else.
Thanks. I wonder what the devs idea was of having a two player team complete larger maps...
people would complain they need co op commander now since the ai bots work in multiplayer and this would mean they need to rework many old systems and add new ones. its just not a good idea maybe in your head but not in reality as with most things people want the devs to add or change.
in reality most co op players play the game way differently and faster and wouldnt even take advantage of the ai and would probably opt to have the feature off the co op people who do take the game seriously and take it slow would probably really hate AI as they would opt for a real human over AI lol
the game thrives playing solo the atmosphere and everything is best taken in alone i would hate for them to change that and take time away from developing content for singleplayer and dedicated team players just so a few people can play with their friends and some bots. six days in fallujah just added team bots and they persist with co op by the way maybe try that.
My guess is that it is on a rather long list of possible future features. And although VOID tries to get the "Better with Friends" Steam Award, it unfortunately might have a lower priority due to the existing mod.
It's very easy to implement, actually.
The host/commander of each game will be the one issuing the commands to the bots.
There is also the option of each player issuing commands to/being in charge of a specific bot.
Lastly, you can also have both players being in command of the bots, with their commands overlapping. Since the players will be on comms anyway, they can arrange who gives/when/which command. It's not rocket science.
This should be in the game already and I really dont see why the devs or anyone else would not agree with this?..
Let people have ai bots if they want and control them how they want - why is this even a debate and not just something they are gonna add?
